Sarah Bashers - Just shut up
11/5/20008 | self

Posted on 11/06/2008 7:01:49 AM PST by ODDITHER

To the McCain staff and Republican Party leaders:

My family has been Republicans since before the civil war. One of my ancestors lived in Arkansas and is described as a Moral Abolitionist. Originally from South Carolina he brought his Family to North West Arkansas and started a community named The Lord’s Vineyard. Here he taught both his children and the slaves he brought with him as well as the slaves he inherited or bought in South Carolina to read and write. Once they reached 21 and were able to read and write and had learned a skill, he gave them a piece of property and helped them set up a business. He once said that his children were no more prepared to live in a world without slaves than the slaves were to have freedom. He is it was his duty to ensure that both could be free and successful. He created uproar when he gave one of his slaves a business before his son, because his son had not become sufficiently humble.

I believe through my family, I have earned the right to speak as a Republican and believe my thoughts reflect many other Republicans.

The McCain staffers who did not agree with Sarah Palin, would you please just Shut Up!! You must understand that most of America loved Sarah, she energized long time Republicans who like myself was not enamored with John McCain as the candidate. When he won, I had decided to sit this election out, I would vote for him because he was the lesser of two evils but I was not going to walk the streets and volunteer my time and money. Sarah changed that for me. I worked harder to get Senator McCain elected than I worked to get George Bush elected. If you’re an example of what the insiders in Washington have become, we deserved to lose!!!!

Americans are starved for someone that can clearly articulate our agenda of lower taxes, limited government, protecting the unborn children and our personal freedoms. Sarah Palin is that person and you are trying to destroy her. We will not allow that to happen, not this time. She will not become a George W Bush because you have hurt feelings. Our message was schizophrenic at best and liberal at worst. We must get back to being the party of ideas.

We must accept the fact that when liberals wage a campaign of personal destruction they win. They not only have the backing of the press but many in Europe. People who want to see American power in the world diminished back the liberal agenda because they know that liberals are the best avenue to destroying everything we hold dear. When liberals are forced to wage a campaign of ideas they lose. American values are center right not left. Every liberal that won, did not discuss issues but instead focusing on their opponent’s personal life and distorting their values. Republican’s who wage a campaign of personal destruction always lose.

If we move to the left, Americans will keep electing Democrats, we need to unite, and start presenting our party as the party of ideas and taking our case directly to the American people. We need every Republican united in that cause.

Shut up and get to work or get out of the way.

So the GOP provided the Palin's with a wardrobe as the Palin's are not rich and that makes them phonies?
It has been reported that Palin's team spent between $20,000 and $40,000 just on clothes for Todd Palin, who — as you may not recall since is was several days ago — was not running for anything. Are you seriously going to tell me that Todd Palin needed tens of thousands of dollars worth of clothes for a two-month campaign that he wasn't even running in? Really? Is there any wonder why our candidates end up running up enormous public debt when this is the kind of license we forgive during a campaign?

If Todd Palin needed some campaign clothes, he could have been very well dressed for under $5000 — an I'm talking name labels like Hugo Boss. Making excuses for this "wardrobe malfunction" is just part and parcel of the head-in-the-sand mentality that will help ensure our political demise.

Why doesn’t the McCain campaign step up and say that these are false rumors and lies?

Come on. Do you serious think she is stupid ?

That woman is not stupid. She was put in a very weird situation and she did the best she could.

She is something special.

Do you hear Schmidt and Salter sticking up for her in public?

Do you hear Schmidt and Salter saying those things didn’t happen?

No, you hear them saying anything but positive things about Sarah Palin in public.

No defense at all.

Explain to me how the democrats are masterminding this.

I agree with you. People will not vote for an imitation when they can choose the genuine article, and all of the country club set have been pushing the knockoff republicans on us for far too long.

As far as I am concerned, the only completely genuine candidate for P/VP was Sarah Palin. EVERYBODY else, meaning specifically the gaggle of senators that comprised the rest of the field, were just what senators always are - a bunch of hyper-inflated egos frantically searching for a live TV camera to preen and pontificate in front of.

And also as far as I am concerned, ALL of Sarah Palin’s critics are on probation with me. She was a resounding success. THEY are the failures. I ignore their scribblings and skip the programs they appear on. Yes, George Will, that means you.

“Makes perfect sense to me.”

Well, if we’re going to make good sense a criterion on threads like this, participation will slow to a crawl!

Buried way down in your third paragraph, is your agenda:

“Here’s a sensible counter-proposal. Let’s accept Sarah as an applicant for the job. Done. No more discussion needed on the subject of Sarah”

-

WRONG.

This is hardly the time to try to be quiet. People are po’ed, and rightly so. And marxists are about to take over America.

No more country club rules. We need to be fired up — about Sarah or whomever, and NOTHING should be done between now and 2012 to quiet down any enthusiasm.

If you have someone you would like to build enthusiasm for (I’m guessing your posting on behalf of Romney, from your subtle undermining of Palin) then it is your obligation and duty to SAY WHO.

Otherwise, get out of the way.

And take Romney with you!

I’m so *disgusted* I ever contributed to Mitt’s campaign.

She gave better interviews after that. We all agree that was not a good interview. But she got better..

is 1 interview going to follow her around for the rest of her life ?

Do I know it to be true? Hell no.

How much did barack and michelle's wardrobe cost? One dress was over $20 grand, right? Who paid for it? What's more, who gives a damn?

You're right, she was very bad in the interview. Her answers sound like those of a typical hockey mom and not that of a Vice-Presidential candidate. The answers are even much below the standard of a governor of a less populous state.

Perhaps she was over handled by McCain. Until I see sufficient evidence to the contrary, my primary issue is that she seems not to sufficiently grasp conservative philosophy. Clearly, she did not articulate it in substantive detail. Yes, she does agree with me ideologically. And she is attractive and nice. But, my wife agrees with me ideologically and is attractive and nice. Call me crazy, but I want more from a GOP nominee.

I believe the guys at the top of the campaign are trying to save their reputations to get a job with some RINO senator for two years from now.

They would eat their young to not be branded as the losers that they are.

They would now say or do anything to take the heat off themselves and put it on Palin.

The democrats may revel in the feud but they’ve got too much celebrating to do to start this squabble.

Again, what have Schmidt or Salter done to diffuse the rumors?

Nothing.

What have they done to fan the flames?

A lot.

Ah, yes, the old reliable "I don't like that so I'm going to deny that it's true" canard that's been a staple of discourse here for the last month or so. Look back at the archives and see how much of this "proof by denial" turned out to have any merit. I find no reason to dismiss the reports.

Either say who “the reports” are from,

Or get out of the way.

Your choices:

1) Put up.
2) Shut up.

So that “immaturity” being on the national stage, was a deal breaker for you.

The seemingly rushed nature of her being sprung on the national scene is somehow a product of her preparedness?

I have yet to see this intelligence or charisma you speak of.

She has no where near the intelligence or charisma of Reagan. There are not even on the same level.

Now, many conservatives were completely enthralled and really excited with Palin in the months after she was chosen as VP. I think most of that came from the Social aspect of it. The choice to have the baby with downs syndrome and her very strict no-tolerance view of abortion was very admirable.

But there was a list of things that made it obvious to me that there were much better choices:

1. The Bridge to Nowhere debacle. A line used in her RNC speech about her not accepting it but was subsequently dropped right away and never heard from again. Why? Because it was a complete misrepresentation that she couldn’t get away with after that.

2. The small amount of TV interviews she had were so embarrassing to watch that I just had to turn off the tv whenever they were mentioned. What she did have to say was just so boiler-plate and rudimentary, even for a politician, that I felt like I lost IQ points every time I heard her speak. Even Bush is miles ahead in coherency.

3. Her 2 years as Governor almost completely nullified the experience argument against Obama’s 2 years as Senator. And yes, VPOTUS isn’t the same as POTUS, but still, the argument was made, and considering McCain’s age, was not altogether unreasonable.

4. The trooper firing scandal. A pretty dumb scandal by any measure, and she wasn’t legally in the wrong. But this thing took the campaign completely off-message, and was yet another anchor.

Sorry, but this is my honest-to-God opinion.
