Coal, Mining Groups Blast Obama @ 12:53 pm by Chris Good
National and state coal groups are blasting Barack Obama today over a recently publicized audio tape of Barack Obama talking coal with the San Franciso Chronicle in January.
The National Mining Association, the West Virginia Coal Association, the Ohio Coal Association, and the Kentucky Coal Association have all criticized the Democratic candidate over a controversial remark about coal power plants, made in a January interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, in which Obama suggests building coal power plants would "bankrupt" energy corporations and investors.
In the tape, Obama outlines his cap-and-trade energy plan, which caps emissions for corporations and allows for the trade and auction of credits to emit greenhouse gasses.
The idea of such plans, also supported by John McCain, is to provide disincentives for pollution, and in the Chronicle interview Obama used coal power plants as an example of what would be discouraged: "If somebody wants to build a coal power plant, they can, it's just that it will bankrupt them because they're going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that's being emitted."More...
Coal groups have reacted forcefully to the tape, which was reported today by a Charleston, W.Va. TV station to have "resurfaced" Sunday. The tape was featured yesterday on right-leaning media blog Newsbusters; it has been a lead story on the Drudge Report this morning.
"Bankrupting the coal industry would be tantamount to bankrupting the American economy. Coal generates half of our nation s electricity, employs hundreds of thousands of Americans and provides millions of dollars in revenue to coal states," National Mining Association President and CEO Hal Quinn said today.

Did Obama have the coal miners’ vote wrapped up? How big is this vote and does it lean dem? Ids this enough to flip dem coal miners’ votes?
Let’s pray they blast him right out of the country.
This POS is making so many enemies.
But I bet the United Mine Workers Union will hang with Obama and say he’s being quoted out of context.
This should help sway a few voters away from him. He wasn’t going to win West Virginia anyway. The places this should help are Ohio, Virginia, Colorado, and PA.
The Union will, but will Union members? Remember: The Union doesn’t get to vote.
I was in a union once and we were told how to vote. But myself and many if not most of my co-workers voted just the opposite. Unions DO Not really have that much power in delivering the vote.
We only need a few votes . . a few more to bring us to a win. One or two or a couple hundred disgruntled miners and spouses jumping on the McCain-Palin ticker are exactly what we need.
Don’t give up!!!
The union will probably say nothing, but the coal miners themselves are going to have a great deal to say at the ballot box. This may put McCain/Palin over the top in PA, Oh, and WV.
A whole lot of those state’s economies are ultimately coal based. Mines, manufacturing, grocery stores. This is a disaster for Obama and it looks as if we are using it well.
Do the union bosses [aka “thugs”] go into the booths with their employees?
What if the they say “yeah boss” and vote to keep their jobs any way?
How will the thugs...I mean, bosses know?
I know hubby’s union [AFSCME, Teamsters] pressured him to vote for “their” candidates all the time but he voted his own mind, in the end.

I doubt that the top ten leaders of the UMWA have 10 years of mining experience put together.
“Did Obama have the coal miners vote wrapped up?”
No but Obama has been STRONGLY encouraging all of his supporters to vote early if the can....now it is to late for some to change their votes...Ouch!
I can see those mighty coal miner minds trying to figure this out. You mean ‘the one’ is going to hurt ‘us’. Yep it would appear your right at the top of the list.
“No problem. The coal miners unions will still demand they vote for Obama, even if it destroys them.”
UMWA membership only represents 10% of active coal miners.
Think of all those useful idiots who voted early. Obama has been begging people to vote early. There’s no telling what other stuff he’s afraid will leak out.

Sarah Palin Connects With Attack on the Liberal Media (Coal Plant Issue)
Look at the spin in this sentence alone, enough to make you puke isn't it? The statement isn't controversial, it is a fact and he didn't suggest, he stated outright he is going to bankrupt coal fired plants, which, in turn, will bankrupt coal mines and many other businesses in the US. Bozo is a true communist and the SF chronicle are just as deep in the marxist sh** as Bozo is.
