When I was in the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, every union meeting before the election the Business Manager would stand up on the stage and glare at the membership and say “we know how you voted and we will make you pay” in a effort to scare the membership in to toeing the line...Never worked on me and I stood up and told them so!

I know hubby’s union [AFSCME, Teamsters] pressured him to vote for “their” candidates all the time but he voted his own mind, in the end.

I worked a union shop for 35 years and the a**hats leaders always tried to get us to vote for the Democrat, since we were in the lumber industry and lived mostly in the country, we always voted for the conservative(in my early years some Dems were conservative). Most workers have a mind of their own, some buy the BS, most don't. I know we fought hard to keep the jerks from using our funds to promote the dem candidate and to keep them from trying to speak for us. Union members don't necessarily agree with union leadership.

The coal miners unions will still demand they vote for Obama, even if it destroys them.

They might want to take another look at Michigan and the auto industry to buy a clue.

But myself and many if not most of my co-workers voted just the opposite. Unions DO Not really have that much power in delivering the vote.

That will change if Obama card check becomes law and does away with secret ballots in the workplace. More union workplaces, more power to corrupt union bosses and more Democratic officials receiving worker money.
