Critical Threats: Blank When None
Expanding Afghan War Awaits New President

An expanded U.S. military involvement awaits a new U.S. president in Afghanistan where the unfinished business of September 11 has flared over the past three years into a major insurgency.

A raft of assessments and reviews now underway in Washington point to a fundamental rethinking of the Afghan war.

But whoever is elected Tuesday will face choices on the size of the military buildup, how to strengthen the central government, how far to go in dealing with insurgent sanctuaries across the border, how to help stabilize Pakistan, and whether and how to reconcile with the Taliban, analysts say. “Stalin’s Comeback”
By Vasko Kohlmayer
FrontPageMagazine.com | Tuesday, November 04, 2008

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In November of last year, Putin posthumously bestowed Russia’s highest honorary title, Hero of the Russian Federation, on George Koval. Although few have heard his name, many in the intelligence community view him as the most important Cold War spy. Born in 1913 in Iowa to parents from Belarus, Koval infiltrated the Manhattan Project and passed crucial information to Moscow concerning the atomic bomb. In the statement announcing the award, Vladimir Putin said that Koval’s work “helped speed up considerably the time it took for the Soviet Union to develop an atomic bomb of its own.”

Less than two weeks later, the Kremlin honored another Cold War spy, George Blake, with The Order of Friendship. Working for the British Secret Service in the 1950s, Blake changed sides to become a Soviet mole. Following his defection, Blake betrayed the identities of numerous Western agents, many of whom paid for his treachery with their lives. To celebrate the award, Russia’s present-day foreign intelligence service SVR issued a congratulatory statement that read in part: “It is thanks to Blake that the Soviet Union avoided very serious military and political damage which the United States and Great Britain could have inflicted on it.”

By awarding Russia’s highest honors to former Soviet spies, the Kremlin makes a startling insinuation: The Soviet Union was the good side in the Cold War. The implication not only glaringly contradicts historical reality; it is also an attempt to subvert national consciousness.”

“The Forgotten Ones”

VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

dded: November 03, 2008
(less info)
“Each of us was raped by between three and six men....One woman refused to have sex with them, so they split her head into pieces with an axe in front of us.”

This happened in Darfur, from which Sudanese military personnel actually airlifted women to Khartoum to serve as sex slaves.

Meanwhile, Indira Dzetskelova, the mother of one of the child hostages in Beslan, Russia, reports that “several 15-year-old girls were raped by terrorists.” Her daughter “heard their terrible cries and screams when those monsters took them away.”

This indicates that there are two things the massacre in Beslan have in common with the ongoing massacres in Darfur: both, no less than the 9/11 attacks, are examples of Islamic jihad terrorism, and both are characterized by rape.

The jihadist element has been made clear by the ringleaders of both atrocities. Sudanese General Mohamed Beshir Suleiman recently declared: “The door of the jihad is still open and if it has been closed in the south it will be opened in Darfur.” In southern Sudan, of course, the jihad was waged against Christians; in Darfur, the targets are black African Muslims whose Islamic bona fides don’t satisfy Khartoum. As for Beslan, the Chechen jihadist leader Shamil Besayev warned the Russian government: “Praise Allah, we are dreaming of dying in jihad, we are dreaming of dying on the way of Allah, so that we could earn paradise and mercy of Allah.”

What does rape, then, have to do with these religious conflicts? Unfortunately, everything. The Islamic legal manual ‘Umdat al-Salik, which carries the endorsement of Al-Azhar University, the most respected authority in Sunni Islam, stipulates: “When a child or a woman is taken captive, they become slaves by the fact of capture, and the woman’s previous marriage is immediately annulled.” Why? So that they are free to become the concubines of their captors. The Qur’an permits Muslim men to have intercourse with their wives and their slave girls: “Forbidden to you are ... married women, except those whom you own as ...

Press Release A081103a-367
November 3, 2008

Coalition forces detain 20 suspected AQI operatives Sunday, Monday

BAGHDAD – Al-Qaeda in Iraq’s bombing and support networks were further disabled Sunday and Monday as Coalition forces detained 20 suspected terrorists in the central and northern regions of the country.

Coalition forces operating in Al Amariyah Sunday, about 50 km southwest of Baghdad, captured an alleged car bomb and improvised explosive device facilitator. The man, who surrendered himself to forces during the operation, is also believed to have connections to AQI leaders in the region.

Forces in Mosul targeted another explosives facilitator Sunday. One suspect was detained during the operation for further questioning.

In a series of coordinated operations in Mosul Monday, Coalition forces further degraded AQI’s bomb network, capturing a man who intelligence suggests facilitates the movement of IED materials into the city. He is also believed to deal directly with senior AQI bomb facilitators in the region. Eleven more suspected terrorists were detained during the operations for further questioning.

AQI networks in Baghdad were disrupted Monday, as forces captured a suspected administrative operative believed to have connections to multiple AQI contacts in the region. Four additional suspects believed to be his associates were detained for further questioning. During the operation, Coalition forces discovered multiple rifles and magazines along with IED materials. An explosive ordnance disposal team was dispatched to the location to safely destroy the materials.

Foreign terrorist facilitator networks were the target of an operation Sunday in Bayji, about 160 km south of Mosul. There, Coalition forces detained one suspect.

Two Men Plead Guilty to Burning Islamic Center in Tennessee

WASHINGTON - Michael Corey Golden and Jonathan Edward Stone pleaded guilty today in federal court in Nashville, Tenn., for their roles in burning and vandalizing the Islamic Center of Columbia, Tenn., on Feb. 9, 2008. A third defendant, Eric Ian Baker remains under indictment for his role in the arson.

During the plea hearing, Golden, 23, and Stone, 19, admitted that they assembled Molotov cocktail incendiary devices, broke into the Islamic Center, ignited the devices and used them to completely destroy the mosque. The two further admitted that they committed the arson because of the religious character of the property.

“Violence based on religious intolerance is offensive to our nation’s fundamental values,” said Grace Chung Becker, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. “The Justice Department is committed to vigorously prosecuting federal laws prohibiting violent interference with religious exercise and other bias-based crimes.”

“This case was solved as a result of swift action by local, state and federal agencies working closely with prosecutors in our office and the office of District Attorney General Mike Bottoms. Crimes of this type will not be tolerated in Middle Tennessee and offenders will be punished to the full extent of the law,” said Edward M. Yarbrough, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.

“The FBI is committed to enforcing federal civil rights statutes and ensuring that the civil rights of all persons are protected,” said FBI Memphis Division Special Agent in Charge My Harrison.

“The attack on this mosque was an attack on the basic freedoms of assembly and religious practice. There is nothing more fundamental in America than that and there’s no crime more important to solve and prosecute,” said ATF Nashville Field Division Special Agent in Charge James M. Cavanaugh

A date for sentencing hearings will be scheduled at a later time. Both defendants face prison sentences of up to 30 years for damaging religious property and for using fire and an explosive device to commit a federal felony offense.

With regard to the third defendant, Eric Ian Baker, an indictment is merely an allegation of guilt, and a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case was investigated by the Columbia, Tenn., Police Department and special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Hal McDonough and Civil Rights Division Trial Attorney Jonathan Skrmetti.

Is Some Clarification on Voter Fraud Too Much to Ask For?
Posted by: Amanda Carpenter at 1:58 PM
Ron Jones of Philadelphia told CNN’s Brian Todd he was so inspired to vote he voted more than once.

“It’s time for change, man,” Jones said. He complained about the long lines and said that “I decided to come back and vote a couple times.”

Sure, Jones might have meant he came back TO vote a few times, but wouldn’t it be good for the reporter to ask for clarification? Todd didn’t seem to mind. In fact, he didn’t even blink.

“I think that’s against the law, but it’s okay, all right. Well, thanks, Ron,” Todd said. Then, the camera conveniently cut away.
