Coalition forces detain 20 suspected AQI operatives Sunday, Monday

BAGHDAD – Al-Qaeda in Iraq’s bombing and support networks were further disabled Sunday and Monday as Coalition forces detained 20 suspected terrorists in the central and northern regions of the country.

Coalition forces operating in Al Amariyah Sunday, about 50 km southwest of Baghdad, captured an alleged car bomb and improvised explosive device facilitator. The man, who surrendered himself to forces during the operation, is also believed to have connections to AQI leaders in the region.

Forces in Mosul targeted another explosives facilitator Sunday. One suspect was detained during the operation for further questioning.

In a series of coordinated operations in Mosul Monday, Coalition forces further degraded AQI’s bomb network, capturing a man who intelligence suggests facilitates the movement of IED materials into the city. He is also believed to deal directly with senior AQI bomb facilitators in the region. Eleven more suspected terrorists were detained during the operations for further questioning.

AQI networks in Baghdad were disrupted Monday, as forces captured a suspected administrative operative believed to have connections to multiple AQI contacts in the region. Four additional suspects believed to be his associates were detained for further questioning. During the operation, Coalition forces discovered multiple rifles and magazines along with IED materials. An explosive ordnance disposal team was dispatched to the location to safely destroy the materials.

Foreign terrorist facilitator networks were the target of an operation Sunday in Bayji, about 160 km south of Mosul. There, Coalition forces detained one suspect.
