Toledo police clerk charged in Joe The Plumber snooping case; Update: Snooper was doing a favor for a reporter; Joe may sue By Michelle Malkin October 28, 2008 04:49 PM Scroll for updates
Just in: The Toledo Police Department confirms that one of its records clerks has been charged with performing an unlawful search of Joe The Plumbers records.
That makes two Ohio government employees identified in the snooping case. (Obama donor Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, approved a separate search. More are being investigated.)
WNWO reports:
Toledo Police have confirmed that a TPD records clerk is accused of performing an illegal search of information related to Joe the Plumber.
Julie McConnell, has been charged with Gross Misconduct for allegedly making an improper inquiry into a state database in search of information pertaining to Samuel Wurzelbacher on Oct. 16.
Wurzelbacher came under the spotlight after being spoken about during the final presidential debate between Barack Obama and John McCain.
The inquiry into Wurzelbachers record is a violation of department and state policy governing the use of the Law Enforcement Automated Data System. The clerk is under fire for making the inquiry for a non-law enforcement purpose.
McConnell was hired by the Toledo Police Department in April 1995 and assigned to the Investigative Services Bureau. A quick search of campaign donor records doesnt turn up McConnells name.
Maggie Thurber wants to know: Who was McConnell digging up the information for?

Update: Heres your answer, Maggie.
The Toledo PD clerk was reportedly doing a favor for a reporter who wanted Wurzelbachers address.
More: Joe may sue.
Go for it, Joe.
Joe may find his work environment has changed to the point that he would be a fool not to ride the tiger and see where it leads. He certainly has every right to sue government employees who abuse their power to functionally repress his ability to express himself.
Hopefully he is getting some good advice.
He needs to file it Thursday am.
He is Ohio’s “October Surprise”, and him filing suit against the police department, working for a reporter, would seal Ohio for McCain.
brilliant but the free play is to sue for lawyer costs, lost wages costs and ten dollars. Get the guilty verdicts and smile leavin the courthouse......on the way thru congress to the senate.
Plumbers, we crack but we don’t break !
Nah! Don't thinks so. He is too busy writing his next speech about RACISM in America that he plans on giving sometime after Nov 4.
Isn’t it? Obama went to him. He didn’t seek out any publicity. He was just living his life until the empty-suit walked up to him.
The obama-cult is ridiculous, and far worse, dangerous to a free America.
Who will they go after next?
Will it be you or will it be me?
The clerk is an idiot as each of these searches is cataloged. If she accessed a database she wasn’t supposed to except in relation to official business, she’s toast.
Well, assuming the PD fires her.
By the time the election happens, it will be $29.99.
Please God, tell me people aren't really this stupid.
I PRAY FOR HOPE AND CHANGE, I DON'T VOTE FOR IT.
I hope Joe sues.
When you get into that Hope and Change Karma, you just can’t help yourself.
Yep. Spineless Republicans have allowed Dems to be above the law long enough that most everyone just accepts it now.
> Are spies hung or do they face a firing squad?
Spies are hanged.
That would probably lead all the way up to David Axelrod.
I'm serious.
In this case, Joe truly has a case of his rights being violated. Am I correct?
The Privacy Act of 1974

The clerk is lying... again! Of course a reporter could find Joe's address. I mean you had the whole press entourage following Obama when he stopped in from of Joe's house. The reporter did not want an address, the reporter wanted dirt (speeding tickets, etc).
It’s a felony by the way
Joe's experience, immediately following Sarah Palin's, shocking; breathtakingly contemptuous in it's eagerness to break the law by those who get paid to represent it, though nowhere near the ferocity leveled at her for not taking the small place the media and pathetic old pundits set aside for her, are symptomatic of a rapidly decaying culture.
Mel Gibson's film Apocalypto protrays the sort of couth instilled in the left.
