Vanity about vanities..what makes a good or bad one

Tensions and anxiety are high right now and everybody wants to purge. But as the mods are constantly pointing out there are way too many vanities clogging the system.
Here is an easy rule of thumb to use when thinking of posting a vanity. A good vanity is one that informs, educates, amuses or otherwise delights the reader. By its nature it is positive as it contributes to the participants overall FR experience.
A bad vanity is a vent or whose purpose is to get something off the chest of the poster and is by its nature, selfish, because only the poster benefits. If you're angry and just want to vent, shout or grouse, do it inside a good thread because you're just boring people and wasting their time.
And before I get set upon by the modwannabees, I believe this vanity is a good vanity because it's purpose if to inform/educate the reader. I think the mods would agree. And I'm not doing their job for them, just trying to assist.

Vanities are a time worn and integral part of FR. The problem is some people think their privilige to post an opinion gives them the green light to post any sophomoric notion that posp into their head.
And then the good vanities get swallowed up in the tide of one liner rants.

As someone who has posted vanities before, I really do not see what the big deal is about them.
So what if people want to vent or get something off their chest! As long as people put it in the correct category, it is not a crime.
People who get their panties in a twist over this seem petty and appear to be nothing but bullies hiding behind the aninimity of their laptop!
