What will be your first bellweather sign as to which way the election will go?
Posted on 10/27/2008 2:02:11 PM PDT by Osama Obama
What will be your first tipoff as to the final outcome of the election? Will it be the weather forcast a few days before the election? Will it be the reports of where voter turnout is the heaviest? How about the speed with which some of the first states will be called? What's your tell?

If I remember correctly, Indiana's polls close at 6:00 and so does Kentucky. They are usually the first two called. Usually before the network news are over. I think that's right.
Correct. Though some Indiana counties are on different time zones. Wikipedia makes it clear which counties are which with their *Time in Indiana* entry *here.*
I don't know if Daylight Savings Time raises it's ugly head in Kentucky voting, but that too might be a factor, hopefully statewide, one way or the other.

Call me a total optimist, but my bellweather will depend on whether McCain picks a strong conservative as running mate.
Oh, that’s done.
We win.
I don’t even have to watch TV 11/4, nor will I.

and several states may see election disputes as bad as Florida 2000. I fully expect next week to be a blood bath compared to the paper cut that was FL 2000.

Maine has a county that might help McCain take the state
...and the jewish vote in NYC....will be an indicater of Florida's Palm Beach/Broward/Dade county voting....
Watching for Pennsylvania....if it's squeeky close...Obomber might be in for a very long night. I think NC,NV,CO,MO will go McCain if Virginia falls for John boy.
Ohio, my state, scares the hell out of me.....Brunhilda is the Secretary of state and is going to do everything she can to disenfranchise the mcCain voters....Many of us are waiting for election day to prevent our votes from being messed with. I think IN, is safe and so is NE.
Some unusual stuff is happening in CA.....hope it rains like hell so the lazy stay home and the modivated right thinking get out and vote....and if its looking like McCain is winning they might just stay home anyway so they don't waste their time and energy going to the polls....but it will probably sit in the O'bomber column because they like to be sheeple.

Ohio, Colorado, and NV are key states, although a McCain win in Pa. would provide a margin again losing Colorado and NV.

I think at 6pm if Indiana is too close to call (normally Brit calls it pretty quick) But if it is 7:30 and they cant call Indy then we could be in trouble

Do the networks really call states on exit polling alone?Yes....If you look, most of the states are "called" with 1% of the precincts.......

I agree. The result will be a President with less legitimacy, and more so if Obama wins because he has had the benefit of so much fraud by ACORN.

I’ve been saying for 6 weeks - if the mainstream media does not call Pennsylvania for Obama by 10:00 pm next Tuesday night, McCain wakes up next Wednesday morning as President elect.
If they call PA before 8:00 it’s going to be a long night.

I don’t believe they ever called it for Kerry in VA, but I did do a nice, deep search of the archives all the way back to election day 2004. Just like now, the negative nancys were in abundance, and Zogby (who else) had the state as a tie just hours before the polls closed (wasn’t the only thing he missed that day).
The first states to close will be IN and KY. Kentucky we should know right away, and hopefully Indiana. If IN is looking good early, we can dispel the notion of an Obama landslide.
NH and VA will then be the big ones.
