Actor Duvall Blasts Palin Critics at Fundraiser
October 14, 2008 8:24 AM
ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala Reports: Introducing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at a GOP fundraiser Monday, actor Robert Duvall blasted conservatives who have criticized the McCain-Palin ticket in recent days, calling conservative columnist George Will a "super-nerd" and former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson a "block of wood".
At an RNC fundraiser in McLean, VA, Duvall introduced Palin for the third time since her nomination to the Republican ticket, taking the opportunity to accuse Republicans critical of the McCain campaign as giving "credence to the other side."
"It bothers me that certain people in the Republican Party are attacking the McCain-Palin ticket, like super-nerd George...What's his name? Duvall asked, prompting a few attendees to laugh and shout out George Will. George...George, I can't even think. George Will," Duvall said, referring to the Washington Post columnist who has been critical of Palin.
The legendary actor then attacked former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, who campaigned with McCain last Friday in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Thompson had expressed unhappiness with the McCain campaign in an article that appeared in Sunday's New York Times. Asked if he was happy with Sen. McCain's campaign, Thompson told the paper, "No," adding, "I don't know who is."

Ah, Lonesome Dove!
The best thing I have ever seen on television. Nothing else comes close.
"What do you know about surfing Major? You're from G__ d____ New Jersey. If I say it's safe to surf, it's safe to surf."
Wow!
What great remarks from a great actor.
Wonder if Bob/Robert would join Free Republic to kick the whining A$$es here, who are nothing but doom and gloom filled with BDS, McCDS and PDS.
Duvall was sticking it to George Will and all the other conservative commentators who are so far from what we live on a daily basis. They don’t understand or appreciate the significance of grassroots support of Palin and that old dude who picked her as running mate.
George Will is one more country club Republican who prefers to be in the minority so he can secretly agree with most of the Big Government initiatives made by the Democrat majority while publicly decrying them. The bowtie is a dead giveaway that he’s a phony and a poseur.
I agree. But I have to use one here.
At the final debate I want to see McCain/Papleborn come out of the bullpen, not McCain/Timlin.
Exactly what I was thinking!
Democrats never complain or bring down their own candidate duting an election. CNN,NBC,MSNBC...they will pound on McCain and Palin 24/7 never letting up. They go on air and they rant and tear apart the Republican party.
Then Republicans will go on say two good things about the Party or the Candidate and then begin to tear apart the agenda of their own party!! WHAT? What is that!
I listened to two conservative radio host yesterday talk for over 2 hours about how John McCain is not doing a good job...how John McCain is not...... How John McCain lost his message and should fire his campaign.....
COME ON GUYS!!! ONLY 3 WEEKS LEFT...POUND THE DEMS....POUND BARACK ON HIS LACK OF EXPERIENCE AND RADICAL ASSOCIATIONS!
Support your Candidate our Candidate!!!
Go John and Sarah!!!!
Bravo!
Super Nerd really cuts, much more than nerd, to the quick!
Dittoes to those great movie roles for Duvall... Even add his evil newspaperman role in The Natural. Great actor and apparently great principled guy as well. I sort of knew he would be given that he named his pet dog “Boo Radley” from his first movie role.
That is exactly what the goal needs to be.
We cannot allow this racist Chicago politician thug to get the power of the White House behind him.
The President - Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the United States. Think about it.
Duvall is a good man. Not a Sicilian though ...
Great analysis! And don’t give up on the Yankees.
The title of this article pissed me off. My brain interpreted it as "Duvall Blasts Palin" when I did a quick scan of articles. I thin the title was written this way on purpose to send a sublimal, erroneous message to those like me who are not yet fully awake.
“Hey der, you betcha! How ‘bot dem Packers?”
He’s a moron. And yes, his brother (who TT could have reined in if he wanted to) cost us the governor’s mansion in 2002, and having Doyle the doctrinaire ‘rat there since then has cost us voter ID. Voter ID may conceivably cost us Wisconsin in this election.
Yup!...One of my favorites!...
I’m glad Duvall is on our side. If 0bama wins I hope Duvall remains active and outspoken. We are going to need strong leaders to get us through the next 4 years.
