Theoretical debate? The candidates should debate the current "crisis!" Freedom vs slavery!

Why a theoretical debate? The candidates should debate the current economic "crisis" a la Lincoln-Douglas!

Just like the Lincoln-Douglas debates, the current debate is on freedom vs slavery. Socialism is slavery! The Democrats pushing socialism (slavery) insist that we have two Americas.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved; I do not expect the house to fall; but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other."

Bring on the REAL debate!!

Set our people free!!

Ditto!
That’s why McCain needs to trek back to DC to get the details.

The globalists/socialists/Marxists wouldn’t want a real debate, Jim.

Someone might mess up and reveal the crisis was engineered at some level.

I’ve always wished for that, rather than the scripted glorified press conferences that we refer to as “debates” every 4 years.

I agree in principal...except I don’t think either know a darn thing about the current situation.

McCain looks really shakey on it. If our candidate was a true free market, free enterprise guy, then I say yes.

If we can subsitute Walter Williams or Tom Sowell, then let’s do it.

Outstanding! Nothing would more quickly show the differnce between a true leader and a teleprompter-reading empty suit. Bring it on...

The young, virile and articulate Obammy will never debate.

The senior citizen, the one supposedly on the verge of Alzheimer’s, John McCain would crush him.

McCain knows that Obama wants to use the debates to “charm” the masses back onto his plantation.

Also McCain didn’t say anything about keeping Gov. Palin off the rally and fund raiser circuit. After all Alaska is in terrific economic shape. Not being a Senator has it’s benefits. :)

Sens. Obama and Biden have to go back to Washington to “save face” and sit in their Senate seats squirming, counting the days until the election day as the Congressional calendar slowly crawls by. They can’t dare leave, else the media will excoriate them.

Change the topic?

Bama has been holed up in a hotel room memorizing lines for a foreign policy debate.

He'd never agree to a change, IMO.

The Democrats are Hell Bent on sticking it to Bush no matter what the consequences for America.

We have seen the Democrats were eager to lose in Iraq just to stick it to Bush. Now they are willing to wreck the economy just so they can say “on Bush's watch”.

If you live in a city be ready to get out fast, they are likely to starve.... “on Bush's watch”.

Mcacin should point out that the Senate while in session is being broadcast on Cspan and the debate will in fact take place.

It’s a great idea, but it won’t ever happen.

Somehow, the Dims have managed to convince the sheeple that it’s all the Republican’s fault, with W the “most guilty” party.

This despite the fact that Dim policies, social engineering, elected officials and appointees are responsible for the damage.

It has been an exercise in frustration to get people to see past the Obama campaign talking points (which are all lies).

I guess my tag line sums it up.

Neither of them can reasonably debate this. Both can posture though, and maybe that sort of disingenuous argument would help get one or the other get elected, but they will not add anything to any solution, just add to the noise.

- Ignorance. This is a very complex situation and neither of them is a specialist - far from it. Neither has a background worth mentioning in finance or economics. The real technical arguments are going on among and between the specialists.

- Confusion. The substansive arguments are going on between a whole bunch of very confused interest groups, and positions seem to shift from day to day. There is no clear way ahead, no clear competing policies that the parties can back.

- Too early. We are in crisis management mode right now. Any good political input will require that the emergency die down - probably when we are in a recession. There are probably a lot of shoes still undropped.

but Obama has had to spend the last three days learning about foreign policy and security matters!!!! You can’t just suddenly expect him to be able to debate economics without giving him time to load the teleprompter and get some briefing papers from his hundreds of economics advisers!

That would be unfair to him. And affirmative action applies since he is half-black.

You don’t have to be a nitty gritty bean counter or Wall Street financial wizard to debate the real issue facing us today. It’s freedom vs socialism! Reagan wasn’t a financial wizard, but he fought courageously for freedom and against socialism!
