McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

McCain is showing leadership while Obama is making excuses for how he got beat to the punch by a more serious and experienced statesman.

I posted a comment last week saying he should do this! (Of course my ping files are down so I can’t prove it!).

But I was saying how too bad this isn’t an old movie where the hero would stop campaigning and go to Washington keep working, forcing them to not go on recess, my campaign slogan is “Country First” - and I mean it darn it! If I don’t win the election at least I’ll know I did my best in helping to fix this problem. Country above politics, etc.

And of course have Sarah out there campaining. “While John is back in Washington bringing about new solutions and shaking up the old boys club that got us into this mess in the first place, he wants me to make sure I hear what you want done. Do you want the corruption out of government?! Do you conservative solutions?!.”

Of course as I was told (and thought so myself) - this would only happen in a movie. Or a dream!

I sure hope McCain can really get things fired up over this so that a real fix is made and not some politiking B.S. so that “everyone” gets something out of the deal. As much as it may just need to fall and hit the “reset” button, I really don’t think it is a reasonable action. I sincerely do pray for our leaders that they have wise and prudent judgement.

PhiKapMom.. Forget trying to explain it to these people who don’t see the problems about to unfold.

They are intellectually bankrupt when it comes to economic issues.

Never mind the smoke and mirrors defense of your absurdity. Just go find the dictionary.

And while you’re at it look up the word ‘fundamentals’.

Research is our friend.

"You said: "If the taxpayers are propping up a business, we’re investors and it becomes our business." I never said that or many of the other thinhs like being in favor of a bailout. Also, you conveniently ignored my point about Wamu. Incapable of an honest debate, aren't you?

You better start blaming Wall St. because while the Democrats gave them the sub prime opportunity, the likes of WaMu, Lehman, and others took it to ridiculous excesses.

As long as people treat this crisis as a partisan issue, nothing will ever change.

The soup line in that picture did not form overnight after the crash of 1929.

Even if one does not understand economics, everyone should understand that sh!t rolls downhill.

That soup line formed after Congress screwed the entire world into a depression through the Smoot-Hawley Tarriff Act passed hastily in 1930 in order to make themselves look like they were doing something after the '29 crash. Today's Congress appears (especially the Democrats like Frank and Dodd who are at the heart of this current mess) even more eager to absolve itself of blame by attributing it all to the greed of the private sector; however, there are few people more greedy and venal than politicians, except for robbers and con-artists who, like Congress, believe they are entitled to someone else's money.

Isn’t that what V.I. Lenin said about 1922? Oprah’s Obama seems in the Lenin tradition to me.

His strategy may yet work, but to suddenly cast McCain as a champion of conservatism is a stretch by any means. I follow politics plenty. You seem to forget: voting against the tax cuts, the gang of 14, comprehensive immigration reform (with the help of Teddy Kennedy), legislature on torture, campaign finance reform (with the help of Russ Feingold), support of legislature on global warming, and this is just off the top of my head.

Please don’t mention McCain and Ronald Reagan in the same sentence. It’s an insult.

Sorry pal... Reagan liked McCain... McCain is no Reagan but the fact that the two men were close would tend to discount your request. I think I’ll just continue to post whatever I want to and you can like it or not.

This smacks of a desperation move at this late stage.

More evidence on the side of your status as a sleeper, despite earlier posts in *both* directions?

E.g. the ABC poll with Obambi up 9% was overweighted with Dems by 10%.

Cheers!

"This was to be a foreign policy debate. Can you explain how or why McCain would seek to avoid a debate in which he is head and shoulders x 10 above the empty suit? It is McCains strongest suit so WHY would he want to duck THIS debate as opposed to the ones on demestic policy?"

It's already being reported that the McCain camp wanted to reschedule the foreign policy debate on the night Palin debates Biden. I said yesterday that this was a bad move because the msm would spin it, and I still think it was a bad move. It's making him and her look bad, regardless of the real reasons. The msm controls the message, or have we forgotten that?

Reagan may have liked McCain, but McCain is no conservative despite all the short term memory on Free Republic. You’re welcome to post whatever you want, but I’m not your pal.

So McCain speaks at the Clinton Global Initiative. Why?
This is the same forum Clinton friend Lance Armstrong spoke yesterday.

I just hope this doesn.t bite John in the arse.

And you are correct. never put him and RWR in the same sentance. Because, you see, if we had 4 more Ronald Reagans since 1988:
9/11 NEVER HAPPENS, and
Welfare as we know it would know it would be gone.

Funny how the economy is in its present state, yet entitlement chexks keep going out and they keep getting bigger and go to more and to the same people for generations.

I'll remember you said that... Seems we are all supposed to be FRiends... but I guess not. No, McCain is not Conservative in the sense that I am... but then I share NOTHING in common with the alternative. I really do not see where your animosity to my post is coming from. Seems we share much more in common than not.
