''The fact is that Sen. Obama proposed amendments that would have killed the legislation. I fought for it,'' McCain told more than 350 people at a town hall meeting.

Lol. Suckers. I got my nomination.

John McCain vowed Monday to make immigration one of his ''first priorities''

He's not courting hispanics, he's courting illegals.

This ad is not about immigrants, legal immigrants already have a path to citizenship. This ad is about legalizing ILLEGAL aliens!

You would have thought he got the message before Palin joined the ticket.

McCain spearheaded a bill in 2006 -- reviled by the right wing of his own party -- that would have allowed illegal immigrants to earn citizenship.

As I recall, the bill was reviled by many, many more people than just those on the "right wing" of the GOP. One might even consider the enormous resistance to have been bipartisan.

That is the same promise McCain made to La Raza a few weeks ago. And they went on to endorse Obama anyway.

I don't trust McCain.

He still doesn't get it. Just like Bush2. Three defeats for his Comprehensive Immigration Reform (aka, McCain-Kennedy; aka, Amnesty for illegals) in two years, and he still doesn't get it. Polls showing over 70% of the American people are against amnesty, and McCain still doesn't get it.

Palin may have been a good VP pick, but McCain continues to make it difficult to support him.

Do you want to win this? It seems to me there’s a lot of folks here who hate Hispanics so much that rather than reach out to them, they’d prefer to elect Obama and suffer under the thuggery of the most leftist, anti-American, anti-Christian president ever to come along.

When I was driving around central California yesterday, I saw hundreds of Hispanic (mostly Mexican, but some Guatemalan) businesses, large and small, and modest but bustling subdivisions inhabited mainly by quite prosperous looking Hispanics. Passing through the black neighborhood on the edge of my city, however, I saw squalor, no businesses owned by blacks (the usual Korean businesses), and a people who have spent their lives going from one government handout to another, to the point that they have lost all initiative.

IMHO, the more ambitious, hard-working Hispanic illegals (illegal only because our quota for Latin Americans is unrealistically low) we can make into permanent citizens, the better. And I’d sure rather have them voting GOP.

Yes but this time McCain said secure the border. No one’s going back to the 2006-07 amnesty bills. They are dead. McCain knows this.

Dear future president John McCain: Stop pandering. No ‘Hispanic’ who will vote for you will vote for you based upon the concept of amnesty. No ‘Hispanic’ will vote for you for a ‘path to citizenship.’

It is time to open your eyes and realize that the best way to get ‘Hispanic’ votes is to take a firm stand against illegal immigration - from Mexico, from Poland, from Brazil, from Guatemala. It is a forum to talk about your respect for life, for family values, for the sanctity of marriage, and for ending the pandering to La Raza.

‘Hispanics’ are suffering the same pain that others have suffered. In the belief that pandering helps, their communities are being torn to pieces, ripe fertile hunting grounds for international gangs fed by a wink and a nod ‘immigration control’, their children murdered in the streets because they didn't join the right gang, and the feelings of hopelessness when people look at their brown skin and assume that they only speak Spanish, and the only jobs they'll be fit for are food services or lawn care.

It is time to stop following the path blazed by liberal activists and /actually/ look at the people you'd represent. I know you have it in you, I saw you at the American Indian Congress in 2000 where you refused to pander, where you openly said that only hard work, sound investing, and diverse enterprise will lift up American Indian tribes, not continued handouts from the Federal government.

Be the maverick you claim to be, open your eyes, look at the people you want to represent, and give them hope - hope that all their hard work to be Americans is not ignored, that their families will be safe, not more pray for liberal agendas. Hope that their neighborhoods won't continue to be shooting galleries, and their daughters safe from gang initiations compounded by exploitation by the so-called Planned Parenthood.

McShamnesty pandering to illegals again. F*ck, you John - WE DO NOT WANT AMNESTY!!! This is just ticking me off! I understand its the political season and all but isn't it hypocritical for the man who says he wants to put the country first to put the welfare of illegals who broke the law above it, just to win an election?

McCain courts Fla. Hispanics

Are these illegal aliens?

Or are they referring to American citizens?

If these are American citizens, why are they being referred to as "Hispanics"???

From the article:

"In response to a question, McCain addressed another issue of great concern to the largely Puerto Rican crowd -- statehood for their former home.

Residents of Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens but cannot vote in the general election.

''It seems to me that we should be guided by a referendum where the people of Puerto Rico decide what their future should be,'' McCain said at the town hall, hosted by Central Florida's oldest Puerto Rican group in a building like one of the island's colonial fortresses.

Audience members who wore ''Puerto Ricans for McCain'' pins said they were glad McCain raised the issue but added that he needs to lead the way.

''We've had referendums,'' said Miriam Lopez, 72, who went back and forth between Puerto Rico and Orlando for years and moved to Florida full-time five years ago.

``The president has to do something to give it credibility, so people take it more seriously.''

Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.

Calm down folks. Let me splain some stuff. First of all most of the Cuban American community in Fl are solid consevatives...witness babalu.com and they are here legally.

“McCain courting Hispanics” is a BS title because most of the Cuban community is solid Republican...solid.

A little known fact and not spoken of is the Cubans are resented by the illegals and some other legal Hispanics. Considering the small size of the Cuban community with in the states they have excelled greatly compared to other Hispanic groups. Most Cubans do not get involved the Hispanic “events” which are mostly controlled by the Mexicans and the Mex. guv.

I strongly suggest FReepers stop by Babalu.com and learn for themselves...and give them support because we are on the same team.
