The feeling is familiar. I had it four years ago and four years before that: a sinking feeling in the stomach. It's a kind of physical pessimism which says: "It's happening again. The Democrats are about to lose an election they should win - and it could not matter more."

Look at yesterday's opinion polls, which have John McCain either in a dead heat with Obama or narrowly ahead. Given the well-documented tendency of African-American candidates to perform better in polls than in elections - thanks to people who say they will vote for a black man but don't - this suggests Obama is now trailing badly. More troubling was the ABC News-Washington Post survey which found McCain ahead among white women by 53% to 41%. Two weeks ago, Obama had a 15% lead among women.
There is only one explanation for that turnaround, and it was not McCain's tranquilliser of a convention speech: Obama's lead has been crushed by the Palin bounce.

Of course I know that even to mention Obama's support around the world is to hurt him. Incredibly, that large Berlin crowd damaged Obama at home, branding him the "candidate of Europe" and making him seem less of a patriotic American. But what does that say about today's America, that the world's esteem is now unwanted? If Americans reject Obama, they will be sending the clearest possible message to the rest of us - and, make no mistake, we shall hear it

Dummies didn’t notice that the world has moved right? I think their actions speak louder than these false words.
What true American cares what the European socialists or the other Commie dominated governments of Europe thinks about our country. They will be yelling for help if the Russians start infringing though. What a bunch of losers.
What true American really cares what they think. They have been trying to influence our elections since the end of WW2.
DILLIGAF?
I e-mailed the fool directly after reading this. Text of my e-mail:
Americans will vote in their own perceived interests, same as any other people privileged to have such a right. The views of the world do not concern us because, well, this is an internal affair, not the business of others.
Obama is a corrupt Chicago pol, a known racist, the most socialist member of the US Senate, and the world will think that he lost because of his skin color? Then the world is an idiot.
Americans actually do not want to have to get the permission of, say, the French, or the Germans, or some Muslim dictator, to do what they have to do to protect themselves. Frankly, we no longer want to protect YOU. Pay for your own defenses, and youll have to give up you cradle-to-grave welfare states cocoons and grow up. That would be tough.
You mean we won't have to come rescue you the next time you get your ass in a jam?
“a sinking feeling in the stomach. It’s a kind of physical pessimism which says: “It’s happening again. The Democrats are about to lose an election they should win”
Subsitute ‘Germans’ for Democrats and ‘election’ for war and I get a picture of this boob for what he is.
James 4;4:
"You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God."

This guy acknowledges in the first paragraph that Europe is populated with partisan hacks who will support anybody with a (D) next to his name, then bemoans that we arent on the edge of our seats to hear their reasoned opinions on who we should elect? Boo Hoo indeed.
This is a guy?
I thought it was one of those gals who "play for the other team".
Spoken by the same idiots who dumped Churchill so they could have socialism.
“. When has America ever cared what the rest of the world thinks”
Clinton. And he did a hideous amount of damage.
Yup, after using him for all he was worth.
Obviously in Barack Obama the leftists of the world see a kindred spirit. What is somewhat mystifying is the failure of these lefties (who think they know what makes America and Americans tick) to see what a failure many Americans see in the European government-is-all knowing states. Most conservatives, like myself, have no problem if Europeans want the cradle-to-grave welfare state that they seem to be so content with. What we mightily resent is these same leftists arrogantly butting into our internal affairs and demanding that we follow suit. Russell Brand's pro-Obama tirade at the MTV awards is another example. It definitely takes a lot of cheek.
P.S. I like my very liberal Brit in-laws. They're all very nice people (they send us cans (tins) of Vimto and other yummy Brit treats), but again they simply don't understand America or Americans. One of my in-laws gets all his "knowledge" about the U.S. from Michael Moore. I'll leave it at that.
Every four years we get this same lament: "The President of the United States is the most important political figure in the western world, one whose decisions affect all nations and not just the US. So those of us in other countries really, really wish we could vote in the US presidential election, and not just those stupid Americans who keep picking the wrong guy."

I can't quote the rest of his response in a family forum, but it well deserved.
You mean we won’t pass the, Global Test?
“When our country is in danger, it is not the job of the president to take an international poll; it’s to defend our country” George Walker Bush, President of the United States of America
Europe's overweening pride comes from not having to defend ourselves and carping on about the way America does it for us. We sit in cafes and discuss diversity and multiculturalism and don't understand why everyone else in this world won't partake of our clearly superior culture.
I have little or no faith in Europe to negotiate the problems ahead. Bah!
I will forever remain a loyal Brit.
God bless.
Dear Sir, Thank you for your thoughts that Americans should be concerned about the opinions of Europeans and, in particular, the British so far as our choices in governance. However, it would serve you well to study your history and discover that we resolved the matter of having to care about British opinion as concerns our choices of governance in 1783 when your nation legally acknowledged our right to do so. It would also serve you well to note that we affirmed that right in the period of 1812-1814 and would be perfectly happy to do so again if needs be. Sincerely - Peter Finn
