Cokie Whacks Weir on 'Who's Looking After Baby?' Question
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 08/30/2008 6:47:31 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

You might have thought Bill Weir would have learned. Yesterday, CNN's John Roberts was roundly condemned for suggesting Sarah Palin might neglect her Down Syndrome baby while running for VP. But Weir, the weekend co-anchor of Good Morning America, posed a very similar question this morning. Coke Roberts, to her credit, called him out on it. Weir's guest during GMA's opening half-hour was McCain political director Mike Duhaime.

BILL WEIR: I must ask. Adding to the brutality of a national campaign, the Palin family also has an infant with special needs. What leads you, the senator and the governor to believe that one won't affect the other in the next couple of months?

MIKE DUHAIME: In terms of her personal life? You know, to the extent people want to look at her, she's got an incredible life story: five children, the son going into the military, she's got a --

Weir brusquely interrupted, virtually shouting.

WEIR: She has an, she has an infant with special needs. Will that affect her campaigning?

I know that Down's babies often have medical issues, such as heart defects. But, beyond that, what are the challenges?

Well naturally, it's going to vary from case to case, but I think this brave young man did rather well for himself, and I think others can too:

I would be cautious of believing this poster is a “right wing Christian-type”

I am a right wing Christian type (with a mentally handicapped child) and I call BS on his/her logic

Let’s review:
- we have unhinged leftists making statements about how selfish and stupid it was for her to give birth to a child with Down’s in the first place (I’ve seen some of the most vile statements along this line of “reasoning” in the last 24 hours on leftist sites).
- we have media types (mostly men that I’ve seen) openly questioning the idea of her taking on the VP slot being a mother of newborn
- and, we have right-wing Christian-types accusing her of “rejecting God’s gift” by accepting this nomination.
Interesting dynamic isn’t it?

You got that right FRiend.

If I were managing media relations for Governor Palin, I would have this whole question brought up in one of her upcoming news conferences, and as a response, suggest to the Governor that she and her entire family in unison chant:

"YES WE CAN!"
(take care of ALL the members of their family)

Take this vile and cynical reasoning we're seeing from the leftists, liberals and demented so-called Christians, and ram it all the way right up to their tonsils from the ground floor entrance.

So a professional single woman like Murphy Brown (remember the liberals attacking Dan Quayle over that) or Madonna can have a career and raise kids but not Sarah Palin.

I Must admit that I posed a similar question a while back. But after seeing her and her family, I see that it is not an issue. That family will do just fine.

I don't know why anyone is making such a big deal about this. Having a "special needs child" never deterred anyone from running for the White House.

So Mr Weir, exactly how much extra care does a Downs baby need?

Less than a drooling slug like Weir.

Before Sarah was named, the idea of voting for McCain by the "base" was one of holding our nose and praying, voting for the lesser of two evils, and/or voting against Obama. And most importantly, only donating to specific local candidates and telling the RNC to take a flying leap when they asked for money.

As of noon yesterday, the "base" is jazzed, pumped, breathing fire, ecstatic and will proudly stride in to the voting booth and vote FOR President and especially Vice President. And most importantly, the money has flowed into the campaign both locally and nationally.

The question now becomes, how vast will Sarah's coattails be?

And the Lame Stream Media and Democrats realized at 12:30PM yesterday that her selection destroyed their dreams for taking greater control of the House and Senate.

“Kudos to Cokie,”

Cokie Roberts — although a Democrat, as her mother and father before her (Congressman Hale Boggs and Congresswoman Lindy Boggs, both of Louisiana) — is pure class. She is an aberration in the Democrat party. While I disagree with her on many political issues, I have the greatest respect for her.

“Those teenagers haven’t a clue what to do with a new special needs baby. I know, my 25 year old son with Down Syndrome is sitting in the next room watching Big Bird tapes. Gov. Palin has no business running for VP under these circumstances.”

I most vigorously disagree with you. I have good friends who have had DS children, and their older kids all pitched in and helped with the raising of those children. Every one of those families is a close knit union of love and laughter, and are models for American families in general.

“I have no idea if her husband can take care of that baby. Alone, with her out playing political games, I doubt it. Palin has rejected God’s gift for the praise of this world and a shot a power.”

I’m sorry your experience with a DS child was and is such a hardship and burden for you. The folks I know who have a DS child feel they are blessed rather than burdened.

CNN’s John Roberts: “There’s also this issue that on April 18th, she gave birth to a baby with Down’s Syndrome.... Children with Down’s syndrome require an awful lot of attention. The role of Vice President, it seems to me, would take up an awful lot of her time, and it raises the issue of how much time will she have to dedicate to her newborn child?”

Dana Bash: “That’s a very good question, and I guess — my guess is that, perhaps, the line inside the McCain campaign would be, if it were a man being picked who also had a baby, but — you know, four months ago with Down’s Syndrome, would you ask the same question?”

******

MSNBC Sexism: Also in the video clip, Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd argue that Joe Biden will have to be gentle when he debates Sarah Palin because she’s a girl.

Kudos to Cokie, I must admit, I didn’t think any democrats were bright enough to realize that.

Some of them are just bright enough to realize their visions of a millenium of enlightenment are slipping away. Most are so far over the edge that they cannot hear.

The correct answer to the question in this post is: “We are merely directly reducing the population of social predators.”

AN ex-fiance took skilled and devoted care of a profoundly handicapped brother along with both parents.

In any case, one can be sure that the Palin family is NOT having the goobers from any gooberment agency take care of any of their children.

He retired from BP (more than 20 years), working on the fields of the North slope in the winter months. In the summer months, he and Gov.Palin operated their Commercial Fishing business together.

He is a four time champion of the 2000 mile Iron Dog snowmobile race.

They both fly, have two planes, a Cub with skis, and a 172 with floats.

He does most of the shopping, cooking, and handling the family finances.

He also is active socially, having hosted several functions for other Politicians and their spouses.

Oh, and they call him the “first dude”. LOL
