"He has a funny name..." says Barak Obama, while describing himself on the campaign trail. Isn't it quite ironic, though, that for most of his years of growing up, he had a relatively normal name, Barry Saetoro.
It seems very suspicious that a candidate would race-bait about an obviously Islamic name that he himself chose over a more traditional-sounding name. Further, it makes one wonder why he would choose to be named after a father who abandoned his mother and had little contact with him in his formative years.
We know that Barry had to be adopted in order to be registered in his Indonesian school as Barry Saetoro. But when did this occur, and why was that not recorded in Hawaii, the state of his birth?
We also know that he remained Barry Saetoro into his 20s, when he travelled on an Indonesian passport to Pakistan.
But how did he became Barack Obama, his birth name, again? Did he simply use his original birth certificate and ignore his Barry Saetoro identity?
We know that when he applied to the Illinois bar that he did not claim any aliases. This is clearly a lie, perhaps even a crime, but certainly something a new lawyer should never have done in attempting to gain acceptance in a legal association.
It is quite illuminating that it was quite convenient for Obama to chose his Islamic name in order to establish his identity in the Chicago area. Barry became Barack, when did this happen?
My theory is that there was little or no paper trail involving his previous identity so he conveniently used his Hawaiian Birth Certificate identity to enter college and obtain jobs. But might he have done this to gain "credentials" in the Black community?
We know less about this candidate than when this whole campaign started, and unless we demand answers, there are things we may never know.
Good question. I’d like to hear it asked in a debate.

Saetoro sounds better to you than Obama? I disagree.
Anyway Obama is his legal name here, he had to use it. And he said he wasn’t really close to his stepfather and he did love the image of his real father.
I do wonder why he went back to Barack instead of using Barry as a nickname though. Going back to his “roots” I guess.
I usually refer to him as Berry (Barry). I find it funny, if he still went by Barry I would certainly be calling him Barack.
Frankly though I couldn’t give a cr*p about his name. It’s mud as far as I’m concerned.
Someone needs to get some buttons made up and issued to some dems on the floor of the DNC that say "Barry Saetoro for President." It would be fun to see what happens.
Indonesian passport to Pakistan? How do we know this? Did he travel alone or with a group? How accepted/solid is the documentation for this?

What kind of proof of birth or citizenship is required for school registration in Indonesia? I’ve seen this claim made — that his school registration name is proof of his adoption — but never seen any information to back up this claim. Nobody ever checked on my son when I registered him for school. I could have used any name I wanted. What do they require in Indonesia?
BTW, I dig your screen name. "Hillary's Moral Void" is as large as the universe itself, one might say. It includes moral transgressions all the way up to murder, e. g., Vince Foster. HRC is truly a multidimensional criminal.
He probably started to use Barack Obama when he started applying to places like Columbia and Harvard where a Barack who obviously sounds exotic and is probably African, can get in...but a Barry, who is probably just your run of the mill white guy can’t without a truly stellar history of achievement. It’s all part of the self-invented, imaginary narrative of America’s most unqualified and least honest presidential candidate ever.

For Obama to attach more love and loyalty to a black bigamist sperm donor who abandoned him as a infant, to return to later father multiple kids by multiple women and drink himself into a fatal auto accident, than to the man who legally married his mother, adopted him and provided his early schooling and religious training...
Of course - little credit is given to his white mother, or white grandparents who saw to his later upbringing and college education..
Indonesia, being an island AND and police state at the time, controlled immigration much more tightly than other countries in the area. I know that there is a search on for citizenship information. BTW, to answer previous posts, I checked the spelling by searching Soetoro and Saetoro on Google, hits came back with both spellings, but I was wrong, Soetoro is correct!

There are questions as to the correct spelling of Lolo’s last name (as there are questions about everything Obama-related).
At one point (in the divorce documents, if I recall correctly), Obama’s mother spelled it “Sutoro.”
