NR has learned that the McCain campaign has been calling key state GOP officials around the country the last couple of days and sounding them out about the consequences of a pro-choice VP pick. The campaign is asking about the reaction of conservative grass-roots activists to such a pick and whether a pro-choicer can be sold to them. This is an indication that the McCain campaign is serious about the possibility of a pro-choice VP nominee and that McCain leaving the door open to Tom Ridge last week may not have been merely a friendly nod to a longtime supporter. In this scenario, McCain's emphatic pro-life statements Saturday night and his pledge that he'll run a "pro-life administration" would have been partly an attempt to reassure conservatives in the event of a pro-choice pick. Here is NR's take today on why going with a pro-choicer would be a mistake for McCain.
Cantor, Palin, Portman, Hunter. Good Lord I’d even settle for Mitt. At least he SAYS he’s pro-life.
I see that in your post #117. Good work! Can we get AdMod to add this to the relevant sidebar? Perhaps with an AdMod edit to the title to show it’s an actionable thread?
All noted, thank you for your insight into this matter./Just Asking - seoul62.......

I am waivering on voting for McCain.
If he goes pro-choice, I will actively campaign 3rd party.
No point in bothering with McCain then; Obama won’t get half the crap he wants through — basicaly end up where McCain would be with a pro-choice guy.
Eric Cantor remains my choice.
Whether Romney or someone else, doesn’t matter as long as they are pro-Life.....
After that, the other qualifications come into play....
Good choices, Grunthor./Just Asking - seoul62.......
I've seen posts from other PA freepers that Ridge is not that big a deal to PA voters anymore. If he could swing PA, that's one thing. If he can't, then there's no point in picking him.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pro-choice pick.
VP needs to be conserverative, very conservative pro-life person!
I think this is smoke and mirrors to keep the Obamination off balance.
Call your State McCain for President office too. Call your state GOP offices too. Tell them Pro Choice VP=Conservatives staying home in Nov.
So far everyone is assuring me this is nonsense. But we need to stay on it until we have an official announcement of who the VP candidate is going to be. The DC geniuses will find away to screw this up unless we stay on them
Thanks but was that a question or a statement?
That was a statement. Who will it be?/Just Asking - seoul62.......
As a practicing Catholic, that is a line I cannot and will not cross. He absolutely has my vote and those of my family, UNLESS he picks a prochoice running mate. I cannot in good conscience vote such a person in to any office, and neither can my family. That’s a whole lot of people he loses just within our clan. Bad, bad idea.
I can't figure it out either. The party powers-that-be who want Ridge are the political equivalent of the TV powers-that-be who think it would be great to have Bryant Gumbel host another show on NBC. Just not thinking clearly.
Bump your post. He did a great job at the Warren Forum. I'll hand that to him.
Mavericks are not, by definition, leaders.
David Brooks had a good essay on McCain today--all about how he's being forced, reluctantly, to run a conventional campaign.
He could favor implimenting Sharia Law, or nationalizing health care or the oil industry, rounding up anyone who gets a traffic ticket and having them shot etc etc etc.
Anyone who is foolish enough to say there is no one worse, there is always someone worse.
