Why I'm Betting On Barack Obama's Victory
The New Republic ^ | July 10, 2008 | Bernard-Henri Lévy

Posted on 07/11/2008 5:33:29 PM PDT by Cincinna

There are unknowns, of course.

The persona of John McCain is already in play and it would be wrong to underestimate him. The man is remarkable, surprising in his opposition to torture and Guantanamo, audacious when he challenged the economic policies of the two Bush administrations. And isn't it said that Democrat John Kerry considered for a time asking this unconventional conservative to share the ticket with him?

Then there is also the American art of "junk politics," especially as practiced by the Republicans, and its unpredictable, often devastating effects. When will the below-the-belt stuff begin? On what Internet site will the first photomontages appear of Barack Obama tricked up as a radical Islamist? How many other pastors à la Jeremiah Wright will we see paraded out by "527s," groups on the fringes of the principal parties that are allowed, without bearing any moral or financial responsibility, to launch all kinds of slanderous campaigns?

Toqueville was a brilliant writer and observer with great insight into the emerging character and spirit of America in the late 18th century.

BHL is a pompous hack, and a Leftist to boot.

BHL wouldn’t recognize the NutRoots if he stepped in them. He is one of them, always has been.

A 65 year old “philosophe” in a Puffy Shirt. Puhleeze!

I would expect none or very few.

The Swift Boat Veterans were the genuine article. They came out because John Kerry was so incredibly an awful candidate with outrageously bogus credentials, and much more.

We are quite unlikely to see folks spending their own (soon to be not) good money in order to defend a politically treacherous character such as John McCain.

The liberal media will not even bring out into the light the very serious criticisms against him and the BS POW stories that have been around for decades now. They do not need to.

McCain is a joke of a candidate, and few are likely to contribute their $$$ (never mind honor and time) in order to elevate him to the highest office in the land.

Au contraire, Bernard. Unless you have slept through the last two election cycles, it is your beloved Liberals who are always aiming below the belt. Penis envy, perhaps?

HOPE AND CHANGE
CHANGE AND HOPE

For a candidate talking about how the others are fear mongering with Iran, Iraq, and the GWOT, he sure does talk a lot of apocalyptic global warming scenarios and an imploding economy.

I guess, the politics of fear is only banned when it's Obama’s fear of talking about real issues, like Iran with a frigging nuke and long range missiles!!!!!!!

CHANGE AND HOPE
HOPE AND CHANGE

“Jeremiah Wright is fair game for 527s and anyone else who speaks the truth about Obama. “

Yeah, but wouldn’t it be nice if our candidate was actually electable by virtue of his principles, and not through the lameness of his opponent.

Bernard Henri Levy overlooks the fact America has always been different from Europe. We just do things differently and that upsets foreign sophisticates like him to no end.

Apparently, it upsets foreign sophisticates like Barack Obama, too.

As many as there are out there, I would hope.

The left considers the use of facts and truth to be underhanded tactics.

Oh Merde! Could there possibly be anyone more insuffrably pretentious, self indulgent and narcissistic than the egotistical so called French “intellectuals”?

None of these people, not one single one of them knows their ass from their elbow about anything, anything at all except talk. All talk, 24/7, never any action.

This moron can’t even drive a car. What the hell does that tell you about him? He’s manipulative and passive aggressive and so self indulgent as to make you puke.

Could you depend on this pathetic POS for anything? If you needed rescue in the middle of the night, would you call this sissy boy wuss for anything? Anything at all? No, of course not. He would flake out on you, beg off, find an excuse for not appearing or helping. “Liberals” always have an excuse for really doing anything “inconveinent”. “Liberals” are one big excuse.

BHL is a parasite living off the work and guts of others, the other people that keep the world functioning while this PO of chicken poop sits around examining the lint in his smelly navel.

A parasite, a self indulgent parasite who contributes nothing,NOTHING and just sucks off the public tit.

A worthless POS. Any man, any man at all, not to mention a whole lot of good women could kick his little merde d’ poulet ass.

He’s a prime example of the decline of Western civilization.

Is it any wonder that BHL loves BHO? BHL has found a kindred spirit.

BHL was in the US on a book tour plugging his book.. (how very gauche and Americain of him.) He was in a state of shock when he participated in a panel on CSpan with Bill Kristol. He had come to admire Kristol reading his work, and found him to be intellectually brilliant.

He absolutely refused to believe that someone like Kristol, a “philosophe” like him, with degrees from the best schools, an analytical thinker, could be Pro-Life, a position he believed to be held only by uneducated rednecks.

His miscomprehention of the American Spirit and Mentality is mind boggling.

Speaking a second language is a wonderful advantage. English is the language of the USA. Any other language spoken after that is gravy.

IMHO, it is Latin that should be required in schools again. The decline in written and spoken English amongst American students is in part due to not learning Latin.

His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, is bringing Latin back. God bless him for that!

Well, all lefty "intellectuals" react like that. If they find intellectually challenging conservative figures, first thing that comes to their mind is, "How the hell did he become conservative?" It is truly mind-boggling to them.

One more example that being an intellectual along would guarantee good judgment.
