Drawing the sharpest distinctions yet between himself and the man he hopes to replace, Sen. John McCain said Tuesday his presidency would focus on climate change issues, reducing federal spending, closing the Guantanamo Bay detention center and eliminating torture by the U.S. government. In a meeting with the Tribune-Review's editorial board, McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, said "spending got out of control" under the Bush administration. He blamed Congress for pushing spending and the administration for failing to halt it.

Right about some things, and wrong about others. But we must remember, this is POLITICS and it is designed to get as many votes as possible. Let us pray it works. The alternative is too disgusting and frightening to even consider.

Sen. John McCain said Tuesday his presidency would focus on ... eliminating torture by the U.S. government.

He is talking about the IRS, isn't he?

I don’t know.

It took 4 years of Carter to get us a Reagan.

I’m inclined to let the chips fall where they may.

Global Warming indeed.

McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, said "spending got out of control" under the Bush administration.

Absolutely right on the money about this.. Problem is, just about everything else he said is pandering the MSM leftists.

I don’t see any direct quotes from McCain on climate change in the article.

Where does McCain get off on climate change? Has this man ever picked up The Book....The Bible?

I have a real problem voting for someone who believes that man controls the climate. What else does man control, John?

McCain's only hope is to pick someone of faith for VP. It has everything to do with the United States and our founding fathers and the Constitution.

Climate Change, my ass.

McLame is campaigning against Bush to appease his target constituency, Democrats, Euro-weenies and Country-club Pubbies.

He’s not just giving the conservatives the finger, he’s tossing the majority of the Republican party under the bus.

I don't think the country can afford to leave itself unprotected from ME enemies - At least McCain recognizes that threat. 4 years is far too long to risk an Obamanation and a Dem Congress and a leftwing judiciary. The stakes are too high and no one really honestly cares about global warming.

in all the criticisms of the President, no is willing to mention that extraordinary conditions imposed by 9/11 and subsequent military upgrades and actions necessitated much of which we disagree

Up until now, everytime his campaign has called begging for money, I've told them to try the Mavericks and Moderates. Now I can refer them to his constituency which you listed.

If you consider the above mentioned steps McCain would impose on our war, this would constitute a step backwards, and expose us to greater danger.

McCain would take us back to the Clinton era, 'don't ask, don't tell a terrorist' policies. His foreign policy creds are a joke.

Sen. McCain reminds me of a guy who is looking for a fight, and when it finally starts he wants to blame others for starting it. This guy is acting like a total assclown, and seems to relish being “Mr. Toughguy!” Lots of B.S., but no cattle. Shame too, ‘cause the other option is a no-brainer too!

"spending got out of control" under the Bush administration. He blamed Congress for pushing spending and the administration for failing to halt it.

Yet, McCain doesn't seem to have a problem with green mandates he has helped to legislate on business, industry and the people.

Must of the stuff listed in the article is the same political rhetoric that has been around for the last 40 years. Same OLD McCain parroting the same OLD stuff.

As someone who takes New Jersey Transit into NYC on a daily basis, I can tell you that the only thing that might get me to vote for McCain is the thought that Obama would let the Jihadists loose in the USA and blow up my train.

I have instructed my wife not be like those WTC “Jersey Girls” and bash the US government but to get on TV anyway possible and call for swift and devastating retribution to avenge my death!

However, I would prefer to live. And thus, the only reason I may vote for McCain. As long as he doesn’t screw that up too.

I believe that national security is the #1 issue. McCain's statements indicate that our security will be at a greater risk because of his stated policy goals.

Wesley Clark almost had me rethinking my vote though.

I understand your thinking, BUT I am afraid the price to be paid between the SCOTUS and our freedoms just to get a decent Repub back in the White House would be STAGGERING with the The Obamination.

With either McCain or Obama, it is inevitable that the standard of living in the USA will decrease in the next 4 years.
