Russert was the longest serving anchor of the longest serving TV series in history. He won’t easily be replaced.

"When did he fill in - was it recent?"

I don't know if he filled in but he did make a guest appearance in 2004 to promote his book.

These things happen. I know it is shocking, but I hope it brings you all closer together.

You may be sad, but I’m not. Sympathies to his family and friends, of course, but I certainly won’t miss his liberal manipulation of the news. He was very instrumental in swinging the primary to Hussein, the most dangerous Marxist American politics has ever seen.

Mumblemann just read the attending doctor's statement, said they tried everything to revive him but couldn't.

Says the family was still in Italy, and is now on their way home -- yikes.

Fineman -- who I like -- is saying some well-measured pleasant things about Rusty.

Now going to Buchanan. Who ironically just alluded to Rusty's "ability to share an inside story", ie, Rusty's knee-deep participation in the Plame expose.

Everyone seems to be echoing the same sentiments. You can see the character of a man in how he treats his family. Tim definitely loved his dad and took very good care of the guy.

The other scary part of this is now being in my 50’s, I hate seeing all these people dying in their 50’s. It just hits too close to home.

Late to get to this thread:

But, I feel like I’ve lost a member of family. And, why not? I’ve been watching Tim Russert on TV before, or after church EVERY Sunday for almost 20 years.

In my opinion.. Tim was the last of the “real” journalist. He was tough, but he was fair. That’s all we can ask of these guys.

Rest in Peace, Tim.... and, may God bless your family.

He went from being hired initially by NBC News in 1984 to being the Washington bureau chief 4 years later! That’s amazing.

“Back when Hillary visited India at the end of their term she inquired about black magic techniques to keep them in office. No one would give them to her. I have this firsthand from a Hindu monk in India. My source is impeccable.”

Are you serious?

...When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed I knew she had begun. Now Tim Russert. There will be more and I would bet a whole lot of money Obama’s name is on her list...

Ummm...ok. So....why wouldn't she just start with Obama?

The really scary thing is that we don’t often know what is taking place inside of our bodies. Even though he wasn’t that overweight, he likely had coronary artery disease, the most common reason for heart attacks.

Didn't agree with his politics but I personally liked the guy...

This just sucks! He was way too young to simply fall over and die like he did. A harsh reminder of how fragile our existence really is.

"I don’t agree that Russert was extremely liberal. He had a liberal bent. But I do agree with the observation that leftist often oddly accuse the media of conservative bias when there is no such thing."

He was an archaic New Dealer who could not shake off the defeated ideologies of state socialism.
