Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) believes that on September 11 "we were basically at peace."
Asked to clarify his remarks, specifically asking about the attacks on the U.S.S. Cole during Barack Obama campaign conference call, Kerry said, "well, we hadn't declared war," The Hill's Sam Youngman reports.
Asked if al Qaeda was a threat at the time, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee said, "well yes, obviously they were a threat. But, fundamentally we were not at war at that point in time."
Kerry also called John McCain "out of step with history and facts."

If he’s right then peace is way over rated...
Sorry, you f@cking idiot, but THEY had already declared war on US, YEARS earlier, and YOU were asleep at the switch!!!
Freaking moron...
Well duh, Kerry you clown, we must have thought we were at peace. Obviously, we were wrong about that.
The only way a person could say something like that is if they’re a jackass or an idiot...or both.
Thank You sweet Jesus that this dangerous buffoon never became President.
Man, I am really getting old fast. I am not seeing how we can be at peace and be attacked.
Somehow I was under the impression (mistakenly I guess) that if a country is attacked they at that moment at war.
If “basically at peace” means you don’t respond decisively when attacked repeatedly by the enemy (see also WTC, USS Cole, etc) , then the years 1993-2000 were “basically peaceful. Surrender Monkey nails it again!
Didn’t John Kerry serve in Vietnam? I don’t see anything about it in his comments.
We were also at “peace” on December 7th 1941 also.
"But, but but...Jon, we're such good friends. You even wanted me for your VP...we've been through so much together, like helping Bill normalize relations with Vietnamese communists and throwing criticism at Bush on how Iraq was being conducted....and now you want to stab me in the back? Where did you learn that from...?"
Wow!
Yeah, well, Kerry, we were at peace on December 7, 1941, too, moron. Is there a point here, other than on your head?
I shudder when I think how close we came to this clown in the WH.
Think about it - this is the way that all the leftists think about the war on terror:
if we could just ignore it, then we could pretend there isn’t a threat, but once you start fighting back, you acknowledge that there is a threat, and you are required to DO something.
Bush, by his “cowboy” attitude, embarrasses the “males” on the left by actually recognizing, stepping up and DOING something about the problem. They are exposed for the pvssies that they are.
He’s delusional. Isn’t he the one who said he sat motionless for 45 minutes after the towers were struck, yet criticized Bush’s response that day?
Shut up Lurch.
till about 8:35am EST.
I wonder if Kerry realizes that he’s become nothing more than a punchline. Seriously, I see him on the news and just chuckle sometimes.
Just like on December 7, 1941 we were at peace with japan.
In a perfect universe, John F’in Kerry would have gone to meet with the Taliban in Afghanistan before we liberated that country, and U.S. forces would have arrived to rescue Kerry (who would have probably been taken hostage), only to tragically find the junior Senator from Massachusetts the recipient of what is referred to commonly as ‘The Nick Berg Treatment’.
And Kerry would never have expected such a terrible end, after all, he went to Paris to meet with our sworn enemies while still wearing the uniform of the U.S. Navy, negotiating with the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong, who were undoubtedly pleased to see him.
Well, it was a nice fantasy anyway.
