American Airlines’ new bag policy discriminates against women, because most women will have to check their bag while men will not. As an example, here are the non-solid products my husband and I take when traveling:
My List: Shampoo, Cream Rinse, Body Wash, Body Lotion, Spray Perfume, Toothpaste, Mouthwash, Contact Lens Solution, Glasses Cleaner, Face Cleanser, Toner, Facial Night Cream, Moisturizer, Sunscreen, Vaseline Lip Therapy, Hand Cream, Mascara, Lipgloss
My Husband’s List: Shampoo, Cream Rinse, Toothpaste, Mouthwash, Glasses Lens Cleaner
Since we are required to put our lotions in a quart bag if we want to carry them on board, it is clear that my husband’s items will fit into a quart bag, while mine will not. Thus, I have to check the bag with my items, while he can carry his on. I will have to pay a $25.00 fee, while he will not. Cutting down the number of items I take is not an option because I have very dry skin and it is exacerbated by travel.
Most women use about 3 times as many products on a daily basis as men do. American Airlines’ policy is an example of discrimination against women who have no choice but to check their bags.
“My point is, why couldn’t the airlines just have raised the price of everyone’s fare $10. It would have accomplished the same thing and have been really less aggravating”.

I could care less. Besides being a man, I’m also platinum. I don’t have to pay! So: another suggestion would be to fly lots and lots of miles on American, like I do.
One other suggestion: get a sex change operation. They’re popular these days. Heck, maybe your insurance will pay for it. Not only won’t you need all that girl crap, but you and your husband could prolly share the same toiletries!
A final comment: whining about a free market problem in a vanity post on a conservative forum seems to be a poor decision.

Sorry, as many others have said, this is not discrimination, it is the consequence of the choice you are making to carry everything you want to. The same consequence would apply to a man or a hermaphrodite who chooses to carry more 'products'.
Just for the record, whenever my wife flies, she has no problem putting even more than what you have listed here, into a quart bag.

I’m actually amazed at how much stuff I can get into a one quart bag. If we’re going to be gone for awhile I just pick up what I need on the other end. It’s really not a major problem.

I refuse to get on the cattle cars they call planes, and I am tired of the extreme paranoia at airports and zero common sense.. so I refuse to fly anymore. If I cant get there by car I don’t need to go.
May sound a bit harsh, but the airline industry has just got out of hand.
Maybe the Airlines can charge complainers a complaint fee for the extra man hours need to reply to dumb complaints. :->

Starting to see what the problem is? Take travel size containers, not the swim team sized ones.

It doesn’t discriminate against women. Not all women bring all that crap, and probably some men bring too much liquid to fit in the quart bag too. Really you need to understand what’s going on, the quart bag rule is TSA not AA, the only thing AA is doing is charging for checked bags which doesn’t discriminate against anybody. It’s a combination of TSA rules and the stuff you pack that makes it so you need to check your bag. Either get the TSA rule changed or bring less liquid.
Makes sense to me, explains why the freight gets better cabin service than the passengers do.

The premise of the original post has yet to be addressed in opinions I’ve seen in this entire thread. Scary stuff.
IMO the reason for doing it this way is that they get to add the per-bag charge for all those thousands of pre-paid, nonrefundable tickets they've already sold.
