American Airlines’ new bag policy discriminates against women, because most women will have to check their bag while men will not. As an example, here are the non-solid products my husband and I take when traveling:
My List: Shampoo, Cream Rinse, Body Wash, Body Lotion, Spray Perfume, Toothpaste, Mouthwash, Contact Lens Solution, Glasses Cleaner, Face Cleanser, Toner, Facial Night Cream, Moisturizer, Sunscreen, Vaseline Lip Therapy, Hand Cream, Mascara, Lipgloss
My Husband’s List: Shampoo, Cream Rinse, Toothpaste, Mouthwash, Glasses Lens Cleaner
Since we are required to put our lotions in a quart bag if we want to carry them on board, it is clear that my husband’s items will fit into a quart bag, while mine will not. Thus, I have to check the bag with my items, while he can carry his on. I will have to pay a $25.00 fee, while he will not. Cutting down the number of items I take is not an option because I have very dry skin and it is exacerbated by travel.
Most women use about 3 times as many products on a daily basis as men do. American Airlines’ policy is an example of discrimination against women who have no choice but to check their bags.

Why should they raise my price because you carry too much crap? Sounds pretty socialist to me.

What nonsense. How could any court suppose there are actual differences between men and women?
Would trans-gender preop men be applicable for the same set of insidious discriminatory practices?
Sure we did. There wasn't all that much there to read after all. You may not have liked our responses, but we read it and we understand the point that you're trying to make.
We just think that saying the airlines discriminates against women because you don't get to carry every lotion you ever heard of on the plane with you is silly from the git-go.

Because less luggage = less weight = fuel efficiency. At least that’s the logic. Unfortunately, it’s not going to create enough of a benefit to justify angering their customer base. If oil continues going up they’re going to have to find something else to charge for, or jack the price up on bags.
The more likely reason for charging instead of tacking onto the fare is that they don’t have to alienate business travelers with higher base fares. Here, they punish the vacationers, instead.
It's really not that simple. If one airline raises their prices and the others don't follow suit, then the price increase will be rolled back by the first airline. The airlines have tried and tried to raise prices to make up for the price of fuel, but it won't work. There is also too much domestic capacity at the moment.
And AA has to compete with all the major carriers that went into bankruptcy to lower their operating costs. AA has not only chosen not to go into bankruptcy, but they have not dumped their pension plans on the tax paying public like so many of the other airlines, either.
The baggage fees do not affect international travelers, or those who are elite members of their frequent flier program.

LOL! My wife used that stuff on her stomach after our kids were born for stretch marks, worked too.
I would simply put your liquids in smaller travel containers. I think they sell those, you can label them, whatever. I know that wal mart sells little bitty travel toiletries, but if you must carry that brand, then you’ll just have to make those fit in a smaller space. You could use those little listerine breath strips (really strong!!) instead of taking a bottle of mouthwash.
If you used travel pack sized stuff you could fit all that in a quart bag. And of course if you’re traveling together you can use the extra space in his quart bag. I’ve had plenty of my wife’s stuff in my luggage, and she doesn’t bring half the stuff in your list. If you’re doing an extended stay and travel size won’t handle it only bring your off brand stuff, buy your main brand stuff there; people tend to do quick trips to the drugstore on the way out of town there’s no reason you can’t do it at your destination instead.
And don’t forget the option of dumping AA.
Actually that would cost a lot less than $25 if you REALLY need all that rubbish. (I did see a woman being led away in hysterics by security because she could not take lip gloss on the plane. She was sobbing, “It’s not gonna happen!” as she was escorted past me.)
In fact, the hotel I use in Houston has complimentary travel sizes of almost anything you might need aside from those $60 bottles of Essence of Mutton Dressed As Lamb that aren’t fooling anybody in the first place. Just ask at the front desk.
All this is going to do is make the waiting times at check-in lines twice as long. First the agent will have to count the bags. then you have to pay for them. Then there will be the guy that doesn’t have the cash or his credit card keeps getting rejected.
Because they are targeting the specific customers causing the specific problem (too much baggage), much like they did when they started targeting overly obese customers by charging them for two seats if they can't fit into one. That's better than charging compliant customers extra for someone else's non-compliance problem.
Go ask the dummies...they’re pros at this kind of thing.

Women do not need to pack a trailer full of chemicals in order to travel.
Try this: More money, less junk.
For crying out loud lady buy a clue! The airlines are rapidly going broke due to the high price of fuel and the low price on tickets. They come up with a way to try and make up the difference and want to charge you only $15.00 for your first bag and you have a fit. I don’t know how to break it to you but based on fuel prices now compared with the start of the year your ticket should be 30-50% more just to stay even. Would you like to pay $150-200 more for your ticket or just $15 for your checked bag of face cream?
You make a sign and stand close to any American Airline area.
