May 27, 2008 -- The polar bears are doing just fine, thank you very much.
So says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who announced last week that her state would sue to block Washington from listing the animals as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act.
And it's a good thing, too - because the new bear-population protections mask what may be the most serious threat to American economic might in decades.
Yes, polar bears.
The polar bear, you see, marks the first species on the "threatened" list whose supposed predicament is linked directly to global warming.
The current Alaskan polar-bear population may be near an all-time high.
But Interior Department computer models - such as they are - project widespread melting of the polar ice the bears need to hunt.
And that's a big problem, given the near-limitless powers embedded in the Endangered Species Act.

No. Congress - after a FEDERAL JUDGE, a Clinton appointee, forced the Department of the interior to "stop dragging it's feet" on listing the polar bear...as though "the debate was closed". Which it wasn't, and it isn't. I know the president is a convenient whipping boy around here, but if you're going to blame somebody, at LEAST blame the guilty. Nonsense. The judge only told them to make a decision. They decided to go with the bureaucrats' politically-motivated opinions, instead of vetoing them.

Declaring polar bears as endangered is another step toward permanently preventing drilling in ANWR.

You are absolutely right. In addition, C02 is at its lowest level in this planet's history. Cutting it further only starves the poor little trees that environmentalists like to hug. Did you ever wonder how many trees give their lives to make up pamphlets to convince to the ignorant masses that global warming exists?
Also, the number one recognized greenhouse gas is water vapor. None of those computer models take water vapor into account and thus even their empirical evidence of global warming doesn't even exist. Until water vapor is taken into account, it ain't science, it's just politics.

The way she wrote her findings sure seemed like she already had her mind made up...and of course congress will go along with the environmental lobby. Follow the money.

If people end up paying five or six dollars a gallon for heating oil and get the idea that polar bears are causing it, the bears really might become endangered all of a sudden....

"Declaring polar bears as endangered is another step toward permanently preventing drilling in ANWR"Not just ANWR. Offshore, too. We're hurting because of the price of gas NOW - just imagine how much more we're going to be hurting if non-endangered polar bears prevent arctic drilling.

The congruence of two factors does NOT infer that the presence of one caused the other. My daughter came home from her PC indoctrination center (school) a few weeks ago convinced that cars were causing global warming. I asked what evidence they had to show that cars cause global warming and she dutifully recited the canard about how CO2 levels and warming had both gone up during the last 30 years and that had to mean that one was causing the other.
I explained to her that Dihydrogen Monoxide is a far more dangerous substance than CO2. Studies have shown a perfect correlation between exposure to Dihydrogen Monoxide and death. In fact, every man, woman, child, animal or plant that is ever exposed to Dihydrogen Monoxide eventually dies.
Dihydrogen Monoxide is of course water. Correlation does not equal causation.
My daughter is 12, so her naiveté is understandable. What is Algore's excuse?
