Former US President Jimmy Carter urged Washington to establish friendly ties with Tehran, reiterating the need for his country to resume trade relations with Iran, which he described as a "rational" nation.
Speaking at the Hay Festival yesterday, Carter also suggested the US should provide nuclear power technology and fuel to Iran as a show of goodwill.
"What happens if, in three years' time, Iran has a nuclear weapon," Carter asked. "I'm not sure that is going to happen, but if it does, what do we do? They are rational people like all of us in this room. Do they want to commit suicide? I would guess not. So what we have to do is talk with them now and say to them we want to be their friends," the former US president said.
"The United States must let Iran know that we want to give them fuel and everything they need for a non-military nuclear program. Twenty-five years ago we cut off trading with Iran. We've got to resume trading to show Iran we are friends."
Carter also criticized President George Bush, saying it was a "serious mistake and terrible departure" from the actions of previous US presidents not to engage with countries with which they differed.
"The president of the administration in Washington is the first one to have ever done this and I think we close off ourselves from any sort of rational accommodation of the views of other parties in order to reach out on major goals," said Carter, in a further interview with Sky Arts, to be broadcast today.

David Horowitz lays it all out as to WHY we haven’t taken on Syria and Iran yet (Don’t forget to share far and wide between now and November - It’s worth 90 minutes of your time):

My pleasure. Understanding the history of this important region is key to finding ways to deal with the threats.
“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”
Manuel II Paleologus, Byzantine Emperor
probably recorded sometime during the eight-year siege of Constantinople (1394-1402) by the Muslim Turks.
For your interest I have posted my summary of Iran’s History until the Revolution on my Profile page. Spiced it up with several pictures.
Jimmy Carter as Darth Goober.
Life’s easy when it comes to Jimmah - if he’s for it - I’m against it. It’s soooooo much easier than having to think through something.
Then why didn’t Carter do this?
And while we’re on the subject, why didn’t Carter offer this advice to Clinton when he was busy declaring sanctions against everybody except China, Cuba and Russia?
I'm bookmarking for full perusal tonight. Household duties call me at the moment.....gloom.
Thanks so much. You are a freeper with Iranian expertise....and one who's BEEN there. I'll call on you when I have a question about Iran and it's unfortunate demise in the modern era (thanks, Jimmuh).
You are one of the many reasons I'm an informed and long-time freeper.

“Any chance that the Persian people will get tired of being “Arabs” and call for a Restoration?”
Something is going on - beneath roiling waters.
Meanwhile the unofficial martial law -7/24 patrols by the Bassiji Suppression Forces - has required this hit to kill paramilitary division to hire nearly TWO Million recruits.
HALF A BILLION dollar budget makes this possible at the rates paid in Iran.
So you're saying Iran has shifted combat troops to prevent revolution.
These are NEW recruits for the most part.
For background, the NEW Commander of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), who used to be senior commander and in charge of ALL paramilitary forces was put UNDER the NEW Commander of the Bassiji Suppression (Feshaar in Farsi) Forces a few months ago.
These appointments were made by the Supreme Ruler Ali Khamenei, who also appointed the deputy commanders. Something unheard of as commanders have always been free to choose their top assistants.
Plus, the stated reason for this change was a policy change which stated that the above forces were to focus on “internal dangers” as opposed to external threats.
The regular military (as opposed to paramilitary IRGC etc.) have for some time become second class “military citizens” receiving little or no updated weapons etc. - in fact most of the regular military has actually been DISARMED as the Mullahs no longer feel they can trust them.
This lack of trust is also an underlying reason for putting the ever less loyal IRGC under the Bassiji, a huge proportion of whom are Arab mercenaries, who love maiming and killing the non-Arab Iranians.
BTTT
Thanks for the ping.
This isn’t from The Onion?
Qustion:Why is it that you can not circumcize Jimmy Carter?
Answer: There’s just no end to that pr*ck
Are these picture of poor gays that are being hanged? they look like teenagers. If so, then Carter is a babbling idiot.
There can be no long-term solution for Iran, that does not involve the people rising up in something like the French Revolution and killing all the Arab Islamists and hanging all the mullahs
Only when the average Iranian is totally sick of Islam and wants nothing further to do with it, to the point of being willing to kill anybody who DOES love Sharia, will there be lasting change
Anything less, and Sharia will inevitably return
