On a local level, our elected leaders don’t hear from voters unless we complain or want to whine about something. What a few have told me is they want and need more input from constituents then they get now. They want stories they can use in support or opposition of various bills, and the more people who write them, the more they can claim they are representing their voters. This sounds like a small thing but to them it helps them oppose bad bills and support good ones. It makes sense too, if we remember we have to fight off lobbyists who are trying to sway their votes one way or another.
EC is right about their already know how we feel on the big issues, but they still want the input to show support and voter backing. If nothing else, this is one way to keep momentum up and keep our issues in the forefront of discussion.
Either way, I’m with you that this is potentially a strong issue for us. The argument just has to be updated rather than put to them in such straightforward terms that it plays into their worst cartoonish stereotypes of evil energy multinationals, etc..
But I think people are ready for it.
Also in Britain most of the excessive cost is tax in one form or another
absolutely!
We can give them the FR link but I’m afraid we can’t make them come here enough times to make a big difference. They are too busy with legislation and running for reelection.
Well— I don’t know what your Reps are like....
My Reps are closely knit into their communities.....
I talk to most of them PERSONALLY at least once a month....let alone calls, emails, articles in papers, etc...
These folks do a LOT of local events, speaking to small groups....all you have to do is ask them....
Maybe it is just my area...but we are very active, and our Reps are very visible, and approachable on a physical and personal level....
Thanks. Just got back from mass. We had three First Communions this morning. My 7 year old son will go next year. They grow up so fast! But what a freaking world we leave them!
I do not think it depends on having a Reagan out there or finding Republicans with a pair. It’s going to come down to people getting pee’d off enough, waking up and smelling the coffee, and simply just growing up. If that doesn’t happen, then we truly are screwed.
Come, come Sweet Jesus! Sometimes I tell my wife, He’s coming, but in order for the End Times to arrive, things have to really get bad. Maybe we’re finally at that doorstep. It gives me mixed emotions to think we had children just in time for Judgement Day. If so, I hope they can take it! All I can do is teach my children Faith in God, to be spiritually strong, and not to be afraid, for He is with us, always.
btw—
I you make good points....people should be in touch with their Reps on a regular basis....
I just don’t like giving Politicos a pass— it is THEIR job to know what his constituents want....this is what they have staffers for, etc.....if they just hang out with other politicians, then they aren’t doing their jobs...
btw— you are also right on that we can give them info they may not know...
just last week- I unterviewed Tom Price, and I schooled him on a few facts when it comes to energy that he did not know....but it sure will make him look at his lobbyists a tad differently...
;-)
I understand, and we have that here as well. They still want to hear from more people. Hearing from more people helps them remember who they represent and how many are on their side on issues. It also helps prevent their going along with bills the Democrats want because they don’t have enough Republicans holding their feet to the fire.
I’ve had similar experiences here. I agree with you that it is their job to keep informed, but they can’t/don’t always do that.
Many of our newer Republicans don’t have much of a staff either. They pool resources to use a general party staff. At the state capitol, they might have one small office tucked away someplace but that’s about it. Yes, big names and party leaders have staff and space but lower rung representatives usually don’t.
Then there’s the issue of momentum. Democrats claim they have it here, whether or not it is true in every case. Still, look at the two competitive websites, as a disinterested third person looking for information, and tell me which party has momentum?

The Dems also have a hit website against us at

If you like $4/gal, Thank Congress in Nov.

Apparently President Bush is the only one that has figured out that we need to produce our own Oil. The man is a genius.

well— you are dealing with a different climate than I am
my area is strong Red area...
our problem is just that these folks still think Newt is a conservative- LOL!
We are so active here— that Congressman Price has actually moved to the RIGHT in the last 2 years.....
he even signed a pledge to take no earmarks....
right now— I am getting folks aware that Phil Gingrey (who is beloved here) is a co-sponsor of the dang NEVA hoax....I am hoping Phil is not aware of the fine print in this bill....but either way— he WILL know come Monday morning— LOL!
our area networks very well...we have folks with different areas of passion and expertise...we all keep in contact alerting each other of issues...then we all call on our own contact groups to carry the message and take action....
this helps everyone be active and the politicos on their toes....with minimal work from individuals....
Pray for W and Our British Allied Troops
