Schwarzenegger calls for 'rebranding' GOP
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 17, 2008 | Carla Marinucci

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger created shock and awe in the Republican Party when he warned years ago that the GOP was in danger of "dying at the box office" by failing to make the sale to a wide swath of voters. And with the presidential election looming, the Republican governor of the nation's most populous state - a decidedly blue state - has now found a chorus of agreement. The Republican "brand" - thanks to an unpopular president, a war, gas prices, foreclosures and deficit - has become such damaged goods that GOP Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia groused last week that "if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf." The answer for GOP presidential candidate John McCain: take a page out of the Schwarzenegger playbook and sell a product that is "counter" to the current GOP brand on issues like global warming, spending, and even immigration reform.

The Republican "brand" - thanks to an unpopular president, a war, gas prices, foreclosures and deficit - has become such damaged goods that GOP Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia groused last week that "if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf."

Davis did his part by sitting on his hands while Henry Waxman created a dust storm about Valerie Plame before and after Waxman replaced him as chair of the House Oversight Committee.

I'm hearing a lot of stupid corporate buzzwords lately from the GOP concerning "branding." "Branding" has nothing to do with why the party is losing. It's because it has embraced the libs and the GOP candidate is the ultimate RINO.

Losers.

After Schwarzenegger’s performance, he dosn’t have any room to be talking about changing the Republican party. He’s already destroyed it in this state. McCain is about to finish the job nationally.

God, stop harping on Schwarzenegger. This site is getting pathetic.

FreeRepublic has always been a place to criticize, ridicule and keep an eye on democrats, liberals and other socialists. Why should we change?

His choice of running mate will be the ideal way to make us conservatives pay by “reaching across the aisle” for a VP pick.

I've said it before..and I'll say it again.

It wouldn't surprise me at all...if John McCain picks Hillary as his V.P.

Yup, Bush has done the party in. If you review his campaign talk you will see the opposite of what we got.

It didn't start with him.........

There is something else to consider. All of the justices who opposed the ruling are Republican appointees.

Goes to show that make-believe and reality don’t mix. Instead of seeing The Terminator, I see a spine-less Kennedy.

Arnold, how about you just honestly brand whatever party you’re actually in—and don’t mess with the GOP. Does that work for you?

Let me see if I get this.

Folks like Schwarzenegger, McCain, and Poisner (who was a Democrat until he decided to run for office as a Republican) have been busy badmouthing and destroying the Republican party for the last decade. They have promoted policies that are contrary to everything the party has stood for, worked against conservative causes and candidates, and now, when the party is hanging on by a shoestring, THEY are think they are the ones who will save it?

Audacity doesn’t begin to describe.

Explanations that come to mind: trojan horse, infiltration, subversion, sabotage, fifth column, “New Majority,” RMSP...

I agree. Must be a new "talking point", possibly being put into people's mouth by McCain's "economic adviser" and RNC Victory chairman--who is said to have a background in marketing (before she destroyed two companies).

We don't need no steenking "rebranding." The product was CHANGED by these idiots and the product is FLAWED. Hopefully, it will go the way of New Coke.
