Schwarzenegger calls for 'rebranding' GOP
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | May 17, 2008 | Carla Marinucci

Posted on 05/17/2008 6:44:54 PM PDT by Hazwaste

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger created shock and awe in the Republican Party when he warned years ago that the GOP was in danger of "dying at the box office" by failing to make the sale to a wide swath of voters. And with the presidential election looming, the Republican governor of the nation's most populous state - a decidedly blue state - has now found a chorus of agreement. The Republican "brand" - thanks to an unpopular president, a war, gas prices, foreclosures and deficit - has become such damaged goods that GOP Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia groused last week that "if we were dog food, they would take us off the shelf." The answer for GOP presidential candidate John McCain: take a page out of the Schwarzenegger playbook and sell a product that is "counter" to the current GOP brand on issues like global warming, spending, and even immigration reform.

More calls for the GOP to move away from conservatives. Why would people vote for a GOP moving toward the left, when the Democrats are already there?

I have a better idea - let’s rebrand the current GOP with a new name more reflective of its form of leadership, like the “Wimpy Centrist Party.”

Then assign the extant Republican Party title to a new party that actually acts and means like the real thing.

This reminds me of when AMF bought Harley Davidson back in the 1970s. Remember that? Remember what "AMF" stood for? "Adios MF!" :-) It's rather the same with the GOP. AMF to them too!

How about "The Right Party" (anything else is wrong), with a bald eagle as its mascot?

Okay... no sale...

The Austrian has done tremendous damage to the GOP.

The honorable thing for him to do would be to change party affiliation over to Democrat.

Arnie needs to admit he is really a Democrat and switch parties. The GOP needs to commit to conservative principles and boot the leftists out.

Instead of rebranding, why not try improving product quality? How about not shoveling a pile of wild spending, caveins to Democrats, and illegal alien amnesty into a box and calling it Republicanism?

The number one single problem with the GOP has been it’s utter lack of any spine/cojones whatsoever.

"More calls for the GOP to move away from conservatives."

Mission accomplished. How much further away can they get without dictating to us from across the Atlantic?

"Why would people vote for a GOP moving toward the left, when the Democrats are already there?"

Personally, I don't know ... but you might ask many of the good folks around here that intend to vote for anybody with an (R) following their name. They aren't hard to find.
