Sen. Kennedy falls ill; taken to Boston hospital by helicopter

HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.

Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.

The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.

Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.

A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.

Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.

He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.

Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.

If you want to play on the same level as DU and Kos, go right ahead but don’t drag this site down with you. DU and Kos dont pretend to be Christian, most of us are.

Interesting they monitor our comments. I was shocked by the comments they made when Falwell died. Typical liberals. “Tolerance” only applies to them, not to conservatives.

First, Mr. Robinson has been ill, and not been on the threads much. I wish him a speedy recovery.

I didn't know Jim was unwell.

Prayers for his speedy recovery.

Sen. Kennedy hospitalized with symptoms of stroke

****************************EXCERPT************************

By DAVID ESPO and GLEN JOHNSON – 48 minutes ago

BOSTON (AP) — Sen. Edward M. Kennedy was hospitalized Saturday after becoming ill at his home, his office said. There was no immediate word on his condition.

A knowledgeable official said the Massachusetts Democrat was in the hospital after suffering stroke-like symptoms. The official declined to be identified by name, citing the sensitivity of the events.

Kennedy spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter confirmed in a statement that Kennedy went to Cape Cod Hospital on Saturday morning "after feeling ill at his home." After discussion with his doctors in Boston, Kennedy was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for further examination.

"He is currently under evaluation that information will be released as it becomes available," she said.

Hyannis Fire Lt. Bill Rex told The Associated Press that a 911 call came in from the Kennedy family compound at 8:19 a.m. A man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital and transferred by air at 10:10 a.m. from Barnstable Municipal Airport to Massachusetts General.

David Reilly, a spokesman for Cape Cod Hospital, said that Kennedy was brought to the hospital at about 9 a.m. and stayed for about an hour before being flown by helicopter to the Boston hospital. He said he could not comment on Kennedy's condition or treatment because of medical privacy laws.

“Yes, actions are heinous and deserve condemnation, but we can pray for the salvation of the person created in God’s image. God could and did save me despite my sin, how could I wish any less for a fellow human being?”

Agreed. Jesus did tell us to pray for our enemies and this is a good time to put that into action. I pray he gets right with the Lord, regardless of the outcome.

it was just the talking head. Take it with a grain of salt. They really know extremely little at this point.

Talking head on CNN has lightened the mood at CNN by saying a seizure may be less serious. Pick your poison.

A new onset seizure at Kennedy's age is most likely a symptom of underlying pathology.

My compassion for TK is in the same place the DU & Kos-kiddes compassion was for Jerry Fallwell.

I wouldn't want to be down on their level, but it's your call.

Just don't expect to find me down there.
