HYANNIS -- U.S. Senator Edward M. Kennedy was rushed by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital this morning after falling ill at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport.
Hyannis fire responded to the compound after a call was made around 8:30 a.m. It's unclear what Kennedy's medical condition is, but after he spent almost two hours in the emergency room a decision was made to transfer him to Mass General Hospital in Boston.
Kennedy, 76, was placed on a stretcher and wheeled out to the MedFlight helicopter around 10:15 a.m. where it took off from Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The Kennedy family is preparing to host the annual Best Buddies Challenge event in Hyannisport this afternoon, which is a fund-raiser for the organization. Best Buddies was founded by Anthony Kennedy Shriver and helps people with intellectual disabilities.
Hundreds are expected to participate in the event, which kicked off this morning with a 100-mile bicycle ride from the Kennedy Library in Boston to Hyannisport.
A concert at the Kennedy compound is scheduled for tonight.
Kennedy has represented Massachusetts in the United States Senate for forty-three years.
He was elected in 1962 to finish the final two years of the Senate term of his brother, Senator John F. Kennedy, who was elected president in 1960.
Since then, Kennedy has been re-elected to seven full terms, and is now the second most senior member of the Senate.
Mod Note: We're watching this thread and are more than happy to hand out suspensions
I’ve always though Ted Kennedy was quite vigorous given his age weight and past history of drinking. If he leaves the Senate I predict Devall Partick will appoint himself to take over in the interim.
Thank you for posting that.
It doesn’t seem this is the time to dump on him either. My prayers are for his recovery and his family’s strength.
CNN has rumours coming in that Senator Kennedy is going to be ok.
McCain and Obamas family have gave comments now. There praying for the Senators well being.
Yep!
Ambu bag?
But I said nothing rude or obscene or defaming, and I don't appreciate this.
Also, if PITA means what another poster said, I certainly don't appreciate that either.
Jim has set standards for FR that the mods are upholding.
And we all know where President Reagan is. I pray for Senator Kennedy.
oh well
I have refrained as well. There will be a time. There is a time to every purpose under heaven.
I disagree with the man on politics, but I certainly wouldn’t wish ill on him. My grandma died from a stroke. The only difference is that she had advanced alzheimers at the time. She was in a nursing home; not working full time as a U.S. Senator like Ted Kennedy. Prayers for his recovery.
Look up censorship and get back to us. I'm wasting a lot of time on Saturday dealing with people who don't understand there is a time and place for everything. If this keeps up, the thread will be pulled. Capice?
We all deserve compassion when we are stricken with something life threatening, it is with compassion I wish him and his family the very best.
Hope he recovers quickly and fully so no opportunity to harm the nation is missed in his absence. If not, he can join the rest of the Kennedy clan in Hell. Hows that for finding something nice to say about the ill.
I have a feeling negotiations are being made as to WHICH “journalist” will tell us the news....and they are writing the material....just a hunch.
You’re mighty sure of what the Lord forgives and what He doesn’t. And I don’t recall hearing that Kennedy is vegetative.
But have a nice day!
I wish him well.
They are trying to make the place different from the cesspit of DU.
To be honest, I think holding back a few comments about a possibly dying Kennedy isn’t that big of a deal.
Now if it was Soros....please no censorship.
It seems pretty clear from what we know he was intubated at Hyannisport’s hospital and was being bagged (or at least equipped for it) during the flight.
