GOP Stunned By Loss in Mississippi

In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits.

Voters cast ballots for the fourth time in three months for the seat, vacated when Republican Roger Wicker was appointed to fill the remainder of Senator Trent Lott's term. After winning the primary and the runoff election, Childers came within 410 votes of winning the first round of the special election against Davis on April 22, beating the Republican by a 49%-46% margin.

The RINO begins at the top of the GOP ticket. There is where the perception begins.

The Obama-Clinton race has energized RATS. The GOP primary was dull.

“To blame “rinos” on this loss is totally absurd.”

I don’t know. I think I would have to be very convinced the (R) was a true conservative before I’d vote for him: Someone that was going to not only fight to kill the Rats but someone was going to fight to kill the RINO’s. Any, I mean, any hint that he harbored a “spirit of bipartisanship” or “compassionate conservatism” would cause me to stay home.

That’s because of the RINO’s. I’m not consenting to the rule of someone who A) Is basically a Rat or B) is going up there just for a paycheck.

a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits

They didn't answer the wake-up call that came in 2006.

They are going to find themselves startled again in 2008, if they don't wake-up soon.

[With their presumptive nominee, it may already be too late for 08. Oh well, maybe they will decide to answer by 2012.]

That’s why McCain still has some chance to win the Presidency, because he has been so effective in distancing himself from the tainted GOP brand.

For the rest of the party, a wholesale purge is coming.
____________

Yes it is. I shudder to think what November will look like if Obama wins. Dems will have a huge margin in the House, and possibly 60 seats in the senate. Hello socialism.

Gulp.

Just an indication of what is to come and a big reason that if McLame is elected that he will be stymied by Congress and Senate which are controlled by the Dims.

“I don’t understand why people are mad at the economy. Unemployment isn’t high, taxes are down, and the stock market is holding it’s own - the only big problem I see is the price of gas and who do we have to blame for that? The Democrats.”

That’s usually too much for your average dolt behind a cash register to comprehend.

Desoto county basically went straight Davis. The other counties, forget it. Like in Marshall county, most live there waiting on the check to come every 3rd of the month, and that included alot of my family!

Nowadays I believe half the population either pays no income tax or actually receives money from earned income credits.
Why would someone like that not vote for a party who promises more government largesse?

You clearly don’t live in Mississippi. Nobody in the first district, I mean nobody, would characterize Davis as a rino. He is right there with Tancredo on immigration. Guess what? Nobody in MS has immigration at the top of their list. They a pissed at Republicans for the war and the economy. It is that simple. And if the first district in Mississippi is upset with republicans, LOOK OUT, INCOMING!

They will not impede McCain's agenda. As soon as he sees which way the wind is blowing, he'll be full-bore behind their agenda.

first, the dem pulled the usual dirty trick spreading a flyer about davis being a racist .
But the RCC is a mess thanks to Boehner lack of leadership.
The American spectator was talking about this last year.
Blame the RNC and the RCC for this mess.

Mccain wasn’t on this ticket. Trust me. Peole who voted for Childress weren’t voting for him because McCain is a rino. Many of those people (the ones who went D in this election) will vote for McCain in the general.

I don’t think it matters anymore. It’s a shame that some real conservatives are going to go down in flames because conservatives want to send Washington a message. But that’s just the way it goes . . . they don’t call the Republicans the Stupid Party for nothing.

How many Republicans are articulating this? They should be beating the Dims over the head every chance they get with that vote yesterday.

It’s time for the conservatives to throw out the RINOs and take the party back. Or else, start our own party, which is the poorer of the two options.
