MY 'RACIAL HARASSMENT' NIGHTMARE
NY Post ^ | May 9, 2008 | KEITH JOHN SAMPSON

Posted on 05/09/2008 11:19:11 AM PDT by lowbridge

IN November, I was found guilty of "racial harassment" for reading a public-li brary book on a university campus.

The book was Todd Tucker's "Notre Dame vs. the Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan I was reading it on break from my campus job as a janitor. The same book is in the university library.

Tucker recounts events of 1924, when the loathsome Klan was a dominant force in Indiana - until it went to South Bend to taunt the Irish Catholic students at the University of Notre Dame.

When the KKK tried to rally, the students confronted them. They stole Klan robes and destroyed their crosses, driving the KKK out of town in a downpour.

I read the historic encounter and imagined myself with these brave Irish Catholics, as they street-fought the Klan. (I'm part-Irish, and was raised Catholic.)

But that didn't stop the Affirmative Action Office of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis from branding me as a detestable Klansman.

They didn't want to hear the truth. The office ruled that my "repeatedly reading the book . . . constitutes racial harassment in that you demonstrated disdain and insensitivity to your co-workers."

A friend reacted to the finding with, "That's impossible!" He's right. You can't commit racial harassment by reading an anti-Klan history.

Are they trying to top the stupidity of a university board for firing a guy who used the word "niggardly"? I forget the details, but the outcome was that the ignorance of the administration in failing to understand the meaning of a perfectly good word did not excuse how it made them feeeeeeeeel.

The Klan owned Indiana politics in the early 1920s. It took a bunch of brave Irishmen at Notre Dame to break the Klan's grip. I wonder what it will take to break the grip of Political Correctness?

This is a great book, and it made me even prouder that my son is a student at Notre Dame.

You would think that the administration of an institution of “higher learning” would be somewhat more intelligent thatn demonstrated.

I’m sure every liberal library has many truly racist tomes for every palate. This was just stupid but it does illustrate the intolerance and the mindset in these institutions. It doesn’t matter if the charges are credible it is the seriousness of the charge that matters to them and the feelings of those involved. I’m glad this worked out well for the guy. Just thinking about it raises my blood pressure.

I’ve read this book, I’m Irish Catholic subway alumni from southern Indiana. It is anti Klan history. Tells the story of their huckster grand dragon in Indiana. It was overwhelming a money making dues scam for him.

I remember my grandfather telling me ofthe Klan in Daviess County Indiana burning crosses & parading through Montgomery Indiana. He called the marchers out by name. He could tell who they were by the shoes they wore.

106,000-a-year affirmative-action officer

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

H. L. Mencken

Otherwise known as "job security" by the $106,000/yr affirmative-action officer.

Actually, he was the diversity guy for Washington, D.C...and, IIRC, he qualified as "diverse" because he was gay but not diverse enough after using  the term "niggardly."

Nice Mencken quote. When I read stuff like this Post article, it makes me think of this Mencken quote as well.

Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats.

H. L. Mencken

“I was found guilty of “racial harassment”

Guilty in a real court or a trumped up college court. I’d sue their Irish arses off. Calling the ACLU!!!

Just a small preview of coming attractions in a Barry Hussein administration. Everything the left finds offensive will become a hate crime. This will, of course, include all of the facts which leftists consider dangerous to their agenda. Get ready to toss the 1st and 2nd ammendments.

Yes indeed, another excellent Mencken quote.

I've been collecting black flags for some time now.

The book was about Notre Dame; the idiotic college is IUPUI. You'll find the diversity push at Notre Dame, too, but they aren't this stupid. :)
