3rd-Graders Accused Of Plot To Hurt Teacher (Unbelievable!)

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- As many as nine third-grade students got together and plotted to harm their teacher, even going so far as to bring handcuffs and a knife to school, Waycross police said.

School officials at Center Elementary School, which is located on Dorothy Street in Waycross, said they never imagined that some of the 8- and 9-year-olds boys and girls at the school would think of bringing physical harm to a teacher.

"A plan had been developed amongst several of our third-grade students to allegedly do harm to their teacher," said Theresa Martin, of Ware County Schools.

Martin said the plot was uncovered when one student saw a knife in the backpack of another student.

"It's shocking that they would think of this at their young age. I think that is probably the most shocking part for all of us," Martin said.

In addition to the knife being found, the school officials said other students had duct tape, handcuffs, ribbon and a heavy crystal paperweight.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. If you want on/off this list, please freepmail me. The main Homeschool Ping List by DaveLoneRanger handles the homeschool-specific articles. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list.

Considering what I’ve seen parents let kids watch on TV, it’s no surprise they get ideas like this.

I agree. Remember all the sex abuse daycare witch hunts that resulted in the term “created memories” resulting from improper questioning of young children.

“Blaming this on videogames is like blaming Columbine on guns.”

The guns were not at fault but the attitudes and ideas about the use of these tools (ie guns) has been promoted by the sickos in hollywood and the game sellers. I doubt that the parents put the ideas in their heads and certainly they are in no position to erase ideas that don’t know exist.

Consider this; your child is in contacts with peers, TV, and video games for a dozen hours a day while parents maybe have 1-2 hours contact at best.

Put the little bastards in reform school for a few months.

And their parents as well. Any reasonably attentive parent should be able to recognize when their children exhibit aberrant behavior, unless they consider that behavior normal, or just don't give a damn.

The parents not knowing of the ideas in their child's mind is the parent's fault. Not the gun's, not the gaming industry, and not hollyweird's.

Consider this; your child is in contacts with peers, TV, and video games for a dozen hours a day while parents maybe have 1-2 hours contact at best.

And that is the parent's fault as well. Some parents should put their children's futures ahead of their own.

Believe it or not, there are a growing number of very young kids who have impressed the hell out of me with their, "I don't need to see that kind of stuff," attitude that they get bombarded with. THEIR parents should be commended.

This wasn’t an “inner city” school.

Once again, more evidence required.

I do remember the witch hunt. It destroyed people’s lives. According to the article, these were especially fragile children. The easiest to manipulate.

When you see two possible “vicitims,” one an eight-year-old under the control of an adult, the other 38 and in legal and physical control of the eight-year-old, suspect the 38 year-old unless evidence is clear and convincing the opposite is true.

The poster of the article wrote “Unbelievable” next to the article’s title. I tend to agree. I’m not saying it’s not true, but I find it improbable.

you obviously haven’t taught school in a while. you would be amazed the power of an eight year old in school now. it is the teachers Who are powerless.

My 2 year old hits on the arm when I won’t give her candy.

LOL. Don't feel bad. At age 2, my firstborn attempted to push me down a flight of stairs once. When I didn't budge, he looked at me disappointed. :-0

Today you would never imagine him attempting such a thing. He is the sweetest boy ever. I believe that, until they develop a conscience, children are capable of committing the most horrendous acts. I believe only their small size keeps them from succeeding most of the time.

Considering the Lord of the Flies atmosphere at (most) schools, I find this story believable, especially after the weapons were found. Grouped together by age, children can learn to behave like a pack, with children leading each other. The adults are outnumbered, and there’s not much the law will let them do. These days, teachers are not allowed to even touch kids to break up a fight.

Children look like cute little angels, but they can be very cruel. Yes, it does seem that some children are sweet by nature. But all have to be taught to behave well, to be kind to others, etc. They’re so easily led down the wrong path.

Hey, I'm shocked I could even handle that many. My eldest two sons could take me down when they were just 2 and 4... lol.

Just kidding.

Actually, I'm serious.
