3rd-Graders Accused Of Plot To Hurt Teacher (Unbelievable!)

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- As many as nine third-grade students got together and plotted to harm their teacher, even going so far as to bring handcuffs and a knife to school, Waycross police said.

School officials at Center Elementary School, which is located on Dorothy Street in Waycross, said they never imagined that some of the 8- and 9-year-olds boys and girls at the school would think of bringing physical harm to a teacher.

"A plan had been developed amongst several of our third-grade students to allegedly do harm to their teacher," said Theresa Martin, of Ware County Schools.

Martin said the plot was uncovered when one student saw a knife in the backpack of another student.

"It's shocking that they would think of this at their young age. I think that is probably the most shocking part for all of us," Martin said.

In addition to the knife being found, the school officials said other students had duct tape, handcuffs, ribbon and a heavy crystal paperweight.

I was being slighty sarcastic :). I think you and I are about the same age.

Ok, why did you kick your teacher?

I’m curious if it was more egregious than the paddling I received in 2nd grade by laughing at “turkey tetrazini” as the Principal announced the week’s menu over the intercom.

From the Waycross Journal (http://www.wjhnews.com/):

It was discovered that the students of Belle Carter - a third grader teacher whose class includes children with disabilities including ADD (attention deficit disorder), DDD (delayed development disorder) and hyperactivity - planned to harm her. Confiscated were a serrated blade steak knife (broken), handcuffs and duct tape, said police and school officials. Tanner said everyone took the situation seriously. He said it was believed the children's decision to harm the teacher was made some time last week. He said the motive may have been to exact revenge on Carter after she disciplined a girl in her classroom for "standing on a chair."

These animals deserve capitol punishment.

Force them to recite the names of the capitols of all 50 States all day long. That’ll teach ‘em.

Did you read the thread on their forum that started all of that? There’s a link to it on the first page.

Arguing about how many angels could dance on the head of a pin, and distributing cat pictures are a significant portion of what the Internet is all about. :-)

Can words describe the depravity of society that could generate this?

LBJ's "Great Society"?

It goes back further than the 1980s. There are records from the Roman Empire describing attacks on teachers.

Back then, they used wax tablets with styluses to etch the lessons. The styluses could do double duty as stabbing weapons.

Well, I was in a school wide tether ball competition. The finally game came down to me and this boy.
I kicked his behind royally. Then the teacher came over to me a whispered that they were going to give him first place because no boy wants to be lose to a girl.
I started yelling, can't remember everything but I am sure it was pretty obnoxious.
Anyway, she grabbed my ear and started dragging me to the principals office, I told her to let go and she wouldn’t so I kicked her..she let go.
They called my mom who was furious with me and I paid the price for my attitude and kicking.
My mom did inform the teacher to never touch me again or she would deal with her....I am grateful to my mom for not letting me slid just because the teacher was a jerk.
(Age I was born in 1947, second year of the baby boomer's.)

While I certainly have no problem believing that kids nowadays are capable of as much violence and depravity as adults, ever since 4th Grade I've been skeptical of teachers' sides of situations like this. Back then, I was in the Gifted and Talented homeroom and to reward us for our hard work, our teacher let us take a period off to play outside. Seeing this, the fat cow of a teacher managing the class of not-so-GT thugs next door to ours decided to also let her class out. Of course, they ate up all the courtyard space pushing us to the side and ruining our fun time. Being more than a little annoyed, I just happened to mutter under my breath about said cow, "I'm gonna kill her!" just as your mom would say if you ran a non-colorplast red sweater in with the whites. Expression of annoyance, that's all.

Well, someone (never found out who) went and told this woman that I'd said this, and the next day I arrive at school only to be directed over to her classroom. Subsequently, this **censored** proceeds to yell at me until my little fourth grade self is in tears about how I was threatening her life and how she's going to get me sent to juvy for this. Luckily, the Assistant Principle liked me and had some common sense, so she took care of this and nothing happened to me. Anyways, I'm by default skeptical about stories like this until I hear the entire unfiltered account.

Well, according to the link on a later thread, this teacher has “students with learning disabilities including attention deficit disorder, delayed development and hyperactivity.”

Kids on Prozac, Ritalin and other psychotropic drugs maybe?

How long until some Freepers who defend every student under all circumstances, comes screaming on this thread trashing the teacher/school and saying that these poor children should not be held responsible because they are just too young and immature (and maybe “learning disabled”), and thus are not capable of understanding the severity of their actions?

I’m guessing that if they did some psychological testing, one or two of the kids are psychopaths and were the ones who thought up the plot, with the others being followers.
