It's over. Obama is the nominee.
The San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | March 18, 2008 | Chris Reed

Posted on 03/18/2008 11:48:45 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It was extremely unlikely that Hillary Clinton was going to overcome Barack Obama's lead in delegates, states and total votes and take the Democratic nomination, but Obama's speech this morning -- graceful, thoughtful, nuanced, sweeping, challenging, unprecedented -- pretty much wiped out any chance at all. It was a speech Hillary could never have given -- really, few U.S. politicians ever could have given.

I write this not just because I think this will dampen the Rev. Wright controversy. I write this because Obama did an extraordinary job of presenting himself as the candidate of "the better angels of our nature," to use the phrase from Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address. His speech isn't just inspirational to millions of voters who are tired of cynicism and division. I think many in the political media will see it as redemptive on personal grounds. Maybe they really aren't spending their careers in swampland.

Which not-so-coincidentally is the name of Time magazine's fine national politics blog.

it’s the tag-team of Obama and Wright who have CREATED this whole current episode of “racial strife”. But no one will pick up on that. Boy, are we being played for fools once again.

Yes, I agree there are elements of strife creation that Obama can try to use to his advantage. But I don't think that most Americans will buy into it.

I think what this speech has done is solidify the notion among Obama supporters that the Dem nomination belongs to Obama.

Any Obama supporters who may have convinced themselves that they could support Hillary as the nominee in order to remain loyal to the Dem Party will be unable to believe that a Clinton nomination is in any way legitimate now. There is no way they would support her over Obama now. They have already tasted the possibility of his victory, and this speech has only stoked their emotional fires.

There is also no way that Hillary is coming this close to realizing her own dream of being POTUS without doing everything possible to own it.

It isn’t over yet, but it may be over for the Dems after their convention.

If it was just the rev
he could survive.
But there is also his wife, the label pin, the flag, che ,
rezko, the earmark for his wife’s hospitol, 100% lib voting record, “a community organizer” (that can’t be good) and the fact that he has done nothing in his 46 years on earth.
Burnt toast!!

But what if the better angels of his nature are all still evil?

Egads...where’s the puke alert! :)

It's unnecessary. Just look at the paper of origin. It's a lefty fish wrap. Just a little bit more conservative than the LA Times. The barf alert would be redundant.

All of U.S. conservatism loses badly no matter who the next POTUS is, and this fact alone is very frustrating to all conservatives.

At least McCain is against abortion and is pro-military and we have a better shot, not a guarantee, of better Supremes with Mac. If this were not so I’d stay home in November

#110—— Soros, sitting alongside the stairs, has needed massive exposure for years, never more so than now when it can be shown that he’s the money and muscle behind Obama’s rise....which leads me to ANOTHER thing——just why has there been no investigation into the highly unlikely rise of an obscure Senator, who seems to think he wants to and DESERVES to “start at the top”. Do our supposedly “seasoned” journalists really believe this Messiah fell from Heaven in order to save us? Do they NOT know the way big money , like Soros’s, can find its way into the political process and , with a little help, sell us
ANYTHING???? Obama’s ascendancy has not been questioned-—lending it all the more the aura of the Miraculous, like the weeping statue of the Virgin Mary, or any other object of veneration.

Hahahaha! I hope he's right, or should I say "Wright?"

Not me, I am still looking forward to Hillary stealing the nomination at the convention and detonating the whole party on national television.

OBAMA: We have a choice in this country. We can play Reverend Wright's sermons on every channel, every day, and talk about them from now until the election and make the only question in this campaign whether or not the American people think that I somehow believe or sympathize with his most offensive words. We can pounce on some gaffe by a Hillary supporter as evidence that she's playing the race card.

RUSH: This is so slick.

OBAMA: Or we can speculate on whether white men will all flock to John McCain in the general election regardless of his policies.

RUSH: This is Clintonesque, here.

OBAMA: We can do that, but if we do, I can tell you that in the next election, we'll be talking about some other distraction, and then another one, and then another one (applause) and nothing will change! That is one option. Or, at this moment, in this election, we can come together and say, "Not this time."

RUSH: Okay. Blackmail? "You keep playing the Jeremy Wright stuff, we'll see to it this country stays roiled and divided. You stop playing the Jeremiah Wright stuff, and maybe we can move on and be at one with one another." He's just trying to get this Reverend Wright stuff off television, folks. That's all that bite was -- and he's trying to guilt everybody in the networks into not doing it under the guise of, "By not playing Rev Wright, we are coming together." He touches this with... Well, I haven't got time to elaborate, but while all this is going on, we're not supposed to mention his middle name, either. We don't mention his middle name. We don't call him a liberal. We don't play any more Rev. Wright videos -- or else!

I think he and all his followers are either blind and stupid or outright racists, commies, socialists or whatever you want to call them.

You can't deny that that's a very powerful coalition, there.

Yeah, and the loudest voice among them will be McCain.

Get over yourself. He's the candidate.

"I wouldn’t be so sure.....

Obama is losing his luster fast."

I think so too. I can't imagine that the DNC will stand by and let this guy be their candidate, this race issue will make him a sure fire loser. Maybe some behind the scenes manipulation will go on and suddenly Hillary will get those Florida delegates in her column. When your dealing with the Rats, anything can happen.
