It was extremely unlikely that Hillary Clinton was going to overcome Barack Obama's lead in delegates, states and total votes and take the Democratic nomination, but Obama's speech this morning -- graceful, thoughtful, nuanced, sweeping, challenging, unprecedented -- pretty much wiped out any chance at all. It was a speech Hillary could never have given -- really, few U.S. politicians ever could have given.
I write this not just because I think this will dampen the Rev. Wright controversy. I write this because Obama did an extraordinary job of presenting himself as the candidate of "the better angels of our nature," to use the phrase from Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address. His speech isn't just inspirational to millions of voters who are tired of cynicism and division. I think many in the political media will see it as redemptive on personal grounds. Maybe they really aren't spending their careers in swampland.
Which not-so-coincidentally is the name of Time magazine's fine national politics blog.
Egads...where’s the puke alert! :)
Obama may be the nominee. But he’s now exposed as a Black man running for president, rather than a man running for president who happens to be black. No way he can win. I might vote for the latter, if his politics were right, but never the former.
Tee Hee...the Left is in deep deep denial, they simply cannot deal with Obama’s Halo falling off, so here comes the “Best Speech ever” stuff.
I know Clinton Inc. they will gladly burn down the Dhimmicrat Party if that secures Hilde’s place at the top of the ticket.
Meanwhile, 100 million dollars in Expenses maybe more..
I bet Oprah cried...........
We cannot let these idiots tell us that questions about Wright in the general election are off-limits, which you know they will try. There should be ad after ad on the topic. If McCain won’t do it, then others should independently.
This journalist sounds pretty lucky. Seems like he managed to hear a corking good speech this morning. I missed that one — I was too busy listening to Obama’s pointless and pathetic hectoring.
Somehow, I seem to recall certain prognosticators were predicting Mitt Romney had wrapped things up with his "Faith in America" speech. We all saw how that worked out.
I think she must be throwing a fit right now
1) He got all the focus of attention today
and
2) He didnt blow it
Even though Obama gives good speech, he doesn’t have a chance. The Wright-wing conspiracy will do him in........
Is this another lib Obamagasm?
Reminiscent of the “debate is over” argument for global warming. That side likes to shut off debate by declaring things as “settled”.
Obama appears to be severely damaged by the Wright controversy at this point. If he loses upcoming primaries by big margins, Hillary is going to have a persuasive argument to make regarding his viability in the general election. It might be enough to sway the wavering superdelegates to her side.
Chris Reed admits that he and his fellow liberals consider Obama to be their messiah.
I have a feeling there is a lot more. If Obama is indeed the nominee, I can’t wait to see how deep this dirty little hole goes whe the GOP decides to bring it out... and you know it will happen.
Swift boat him?
I think it probably will too. But politics are funny. And we’ve got a long time until November. It’s time for a lot of prayer.
MERCY! SUch kneepadding I have not seen since the sinkEmperor’s servant, Monica, soiled the Oval Office!
Obama had the nomination sewed up before the Rev Jeremiah Wright's *ridin dirty* *honky* etc. garbage!!
So, Chris Reed, read this line --> Hildabeast cannot catch up... that's been all over the pollsters' threads.
