Dr. Laura: Women Share Blame for Cheating Men
MSNBC ^ | March 11, 2008 | Mike Celizic

Posted on 03/11/2008 5:30:41 PM PDT by Cecily

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has never been one to shrink from controversy, and she leaped headlong into one on Monday when she said that if a husband cheats, his wife may share some of the blame.

“When the wife does not focus in on the needs and the feelings, sexually, personally, to make him feel like a man, to make him feel like a success, to make him feel like her hero, he’s very susceptible to the charm of some other woman making him feel what he needs,” the popular psychologist and radio personality said.

More commonly known as just “Dr. Laura,” Schlessinger made the remarks while participating in one of several panel discussions on TODAY dealing with the breaking news that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer had been connected to a high-priced prostitution ring.

I’m sure there are plenty of ‘anti-men’ and ‘anti-women’ posts here!

Yep, I could make a fortune selling broad brushes for some of the folks on this thread to use. (And that wasn't a pun meaning "brushes for broads", I meant brushes for painting broadly).

Now I’m getting a visual of you naked. LOL!

Well I know if all my jokes fail, my nudity will always make the gals laugh.

I wonder if Dr. Laura is feeling a bit guilty after cheating with a man who was married with children. He left his wife and kids for her.

Surely, that must have been his wife’s fault.

Wow. Great catch.

She does seem to have a pattern of attacking people for doing what she herself has done.

—After seeing her in her youth, I always think of her name as Dr. Laura Slutinger.—

I saw those pictures of her. Some things just are not meant to be seen by the public. :P

I think Dr. Laura is correct. Yes, many times the guy just can’t keep it in his pants but there are times when a manipulative wife brings the problem on. My wife and I were perfectly fine for the first two years of our marriage. We had a daughter and then my wife announces that “she really doesn’t like sex, but if you cheat on me then I’ll divorce you”. My daughter means the world to me and I would never deprive her of having her dad at home. My in-laws were too powerful (A District court judge and a powerful business executive) so even though my wife was not the better parent I would have lost my daughter. I’m the one that stays up with my daughter all night when she is sick while my wife sleeps. I’m the one that does about 80% of the household duties in addition to having a full-time job that keeps me busy 50 hours a week. It’s now been 15 years since I married her and there is not one ounce of passion in our lives but I WILL NOT give up being a father to my daughter and son (which was born three years after our daughter). My kids are my life. My “wife” quit being a mate 13 years ago.

Sorry, I have never heard of any of those people, except Attila the Hun.

Long hair on a man usually makes him look dirty or, if it’s too pretty, like a homo.

I just fixed our fritzed garbage disposable about an hour ago (patting myself on the back as I type, neat trick). I hated the idea of my husband working nine hours to come home and work some more. His office, his domain. Our home is my office, and it's my domain.

It's not like I go out and do his computer programming for him!

I do the mouse traps when needed, but I'm odd about that. Feral. Kind of scary, when I think about it.

My husband loves my short locks. Doesn't just say it to be nice, either--he's usually the one to suggest that I get a haircut.

You’re really missing out on some “wisdom” from the forum misogynists here.... I'm wondering when the "worm" will show up. Popcorn on standby.

First of all...it’s dumb to compare these high powered couples with regular folk.

We’ve seen what women are willing to put up with when they are married to a powerful, influential man.

I would imagine that if I were in Mrs. Spitzer’s position - and I was not willing to give up the lifestyle of being a politician’s wife (she did advise him not to resign) - but I also knew he was leading a high risk lifestyle...it’s easy to see how some might wind up with the attitude “fine - you spend Valentine’s Day with your hooker and you risk your own health - you aren’t getting anything from this source anymore as I’d like to avoid all those nasties....”

Not saying a few women don’t look great with shorter hair. I know a few who do, but I also think they would look even better with a longer style. There is that rare exception, but there aren’t many.

As we’ve talked about on another thread,
it seems the hubby was into more than just regular sex....

Which honestly, I don’t blame wifey for saying “You go do it with someone not afraid of dyin’....me, I’m staying here and hanging out with the gardener.”

Has it every dawned on some men as to why their wives don’t want to have sex with them....

There's a lot of that lacking on this thread. Several folks have posted things like marriage counselling, being romantic, yadda yadda, but I strongly suspect that many cheaters (men AND women) stray first, then attempt to put their marriage back together. All of the marriages I've watched fall apart over the last few years, with only one exception, followed that course. Cheat, get caught, then try to deal with it.

Guess what, everyone: The problems are easier to fix before you bring sex into the equation. Not always possible to fix, but easier.

I will allow that, in most cases, a certain amount of blame can fall upon the spouse who DIDN'T cheat--not blame for the actual cheating, but blame for allowing the relationship to reach a point where adultery is looked at as any kind of an outlet.

The blame for the actual adultery, for the physical wrongdoing? That blame belongs squarely upon the shoulders of the person who removed their clothes. Absolutely. If the marriage is that bad, separate. Divorce.

I've never once heard a plausible excuse for adultery.
