Presidential candidate Alan Keyes may be leaving the GOP. In a conference call last night, Keyes is said to have told supporters that staying in the Republican Party would be "an occasion of sin" and he's ready to bolt. Keyes ... reportedly wants no part in selecting the "type of deodorant we need to make a stinking candidate acceptable to conservatives." A Keyes supporter confirms to Radar that the former Reagan administration official "stated in the conference call that he could no longer remain in the Republican Party."
As for what's next, a third party bid seems like a good bet. Keyes hinted at the possibility on a radio program in January, and an e-mail sent out by the campaign after last night's conference call ... included a link for supporters who "want to vote for Alan as your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice on the Constitution Party presidential poll." A Keyes message board commenter who claims to have been on the conference call last night said regarding the possibility of a Constitution Party run that, "Alan asked us to pray about it." ...

Good, McCain won’t be losing out on many voters.
Keyes would mop the floor with McCain, as he did in 2000. If Keyes were to run as a third party candidate, expect the gatekeepers as usual to exclude Keyes from coming anywhere near the building of any of the Presidential debates .
Yeah, that'll energize the conservatives Alan. Sure.
.
Absolutely!
What a great idea, Ambassador Keyes...you've never been elected to anything and it's good to see you're not missing the opportunity to keep your miserable record of abject failure intact!
Wrong man for the job. I like him for the most part, but he just rubs a lot of people the wrong way.
Still, he's the best of the 4 in the race.....
The question is, what are you “winning” with your beloved “winners?”
The cloak of failure belongs rightly to the moronic voters who choose socialism and slavery over opportunity and freedom.
There are plenty of real opportunities to help good conservatives win elections around the country, and the conservatives that we do elect this year could be our farm league for future presidential nominees.
We even have one of our own, John Armor, running for Congress in the 11th District of North Carolina - and you know he's a conservative.
Wow. Yeah. A rock-ribbed, righter than right Conservative losing to a Communist in bright blue liberal Illinois. Who'da thunk it?
I know Alan speaks the truth for the most part, but he has really gotten pompous and ridiculous. I have heard him quite pushy and forcefull on talk radio when force wasn’t needed at all. And now he is possibly going to pull some voters away from McCain which could swing it to the democrats and we will be left with much more evil and no good supreme court appointments. What kind of sense does that make? I think he is simply angry at the weaknesses that he sees in the republican party and judges the hell out of it but that judgement is seen as righteous in his mind. I believe he needs some patience and then his strength won’t come out as anger and pushiness. If we can get a majority back in congress, great things could happen.
The cloak of idiocy belongs to anyone who advocates voting for a phony perennial candidate like Alan Keyes.
Your comments credit him with more than he deserves. There’s a screw loose somewhere in the Alan Keyes picture.
Perhaps a website which lets liberals vote for Nader if we agree to vote for Keyes should be created?
Good, and rightly so. In fact, I would say there is a better chance of victory in November with the Reagan Conservative than with the Bakerite. Patriot, Conservative, Constitutional scholar versus the Traitorous Bastard... It isn't a hard choice for me to make.
Godspeed Alan Keyes! You'll have my vote!
