An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

"Thanks.....one thing I’ve noticed...this thread has stayed very civil..which is a good thing..so maybe lessons have been learned."

Do you think there's a connection between this thread being civil and certain banned Rudy supporters not being around to post on it?

Conservatives can have differences. We should be willing to acknowledge that, while also acknowledging that when we differ, we can still both be conservatives. Too often we forget that at this forum.

Hear, hear!!!

I remind myself every time I get in a disagreement here, that if I went issue by issue with that FReeper, we would polly be in 95% agreement across the board. Some on this forum have elevated ridicule over disagreements to an artform.

I'm thankful we have FReepers like you willing to tell everyone else if they're conservative or not. Shouting RINO and Liberal and DUmmy and Rooty is so much more interesting than actual debate.

Why thank you. I'm honored that you put me in the company of wagglebee, although I cannot recall shouting any names at anyone.

I do hope your compliments are not due to a lapse of memory.

..I received an e-mail from the McCain campaign the other day, wanting money—I told them they were banned for life...

And I'm upset that you talked about me without pinging me! Just kidding! :-)

I think that some people around here are completely confused about what Free Republic really is. The FR homepage says it is "The Premier Conservative News Forum" and this IS NOT the same as saying that we are a Republican forum.

It is becoming increasingly clear that the GOP is almost as opposed to conservative principles as the 'Rats are. And unfortunately, a lot of well-intentioned Republicans are upset that conservatives are now starting to fight back. Although some of these RINOs have said that conservatives, "have had their foot on the neck" of the GOP for too long, it is really just the opposite.

FR is a place for CONSERVATIVES to discuss and debate CONSERVATIVE principles with other CONSERVATIVES. And yes there is debate, for instance Fair Tax vs. Flat Tax or Thompson vs. Hunter. However, we should not have to debate whether conservative principles are better than liberalism just because both seem to be represented by Republicans.

It sounds all noble for some to sit here and say that we shouldn't label FReepers as liberals, but why not? If someone is endorsing liberalism they are a liberal and it doesn't matter much any more what party you vote for.

It's civil because any pro RG arguments risk banishment, so supporters generally stay away.

Yeah, what ever did happen to Doug Milner? It’s a mystery.

Many pro-RG posters are still around, some on this very thread. The problem was when the Giuliani supporters started getting nasty, slinging personal insults towards social conservatives, and trying to paint conservative politicians as liberals just to try to make their candidate look better.

But it’s dishonest to claim any Giuliani supporters are victimized and banned simply for their support of their candidate. I hope that’s not what you were getting at.

To me (and this is just my opinion), several of the banned thought they were bigger than FR and they ran the place. And some of them would gang up and treat anyone who disagreed with them like garbage. Going to the websites linked in this thread, you can still see the ugliness of some of them, if you look at it with open eyes.

I’d personally be happy if McCain supporters were banned.

I'd be happier if McCain was banned from running for President. Well, I guess only if someone like Fred or Duncan took his place.

Sorry, can't post my opinion, arguments, or disagreements with your post, it's illegal and a risk.
