An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

I certainly saw their frustration with the creationists, but it was not anti-FR.

Some of the banned argued effectively but got on the wrong side of some of the more prolific posters to the site. Poof. They went bye-bye. It had turned into a conservative site no longer but rather a single-issue voter site. Everybody else was a RINO.

Interesting. The times I perused DC looking for that *scientific discussion* I found precious little of it. By far the most active forum was the TOS (The Other Sites) Chat. And it really should have been singular. There was (is) really only one other site they discuss.

The forum with the fewest posts was the scientific discussion one.

Too many people have seen DC to snow them.

I would not call it a belief, just an acceptance of evolution as an explanation that best fits the facts available. It is subject to change or the ash heap if some new facts come along. And that does not include the bible. It is not a scientific document that explains how we got here in light of all the evidence available.

Millee — Banned because of her chat articles...never was a Rudy supporter at all. She never got involved with those threads, at all. She is a total conservative. A mod did not like her.

Fierce — He was banned for being so anti-Rudy. I believe some Rudy supporters made a claim he stalking then on threads.

HOTTIEBOY - Can not even remember why, possibly a forum war thread

Peacebaby — BS banning...I miss her posting. A wonderful conservative gal from Georgia....I miss her and her humor. I think someone felt slighted on the OFST....please

PaulaB — Got fed up with the bannings

All of the above are a loss to FR. Fun posters and all die hard conservatives.

Millee was banned for her chat threads.....please.

I think the above majority have been called trolls when they were banned.

So wrong.

grey_whiskers isn’t picking a single case of someone being banned and saying it applies to all. I saw many of the bannings that happened on the crevo threads.

He’s right, many of them did not stop with the attacks they were making in spite of being clearly and repeatedly warned of what was coming. They had their chance and spit in the face of the mods. Some outright asked to be banned, or dared the mods to do it.

That way they could go and get their laurel wreath over at DC. There’s no honor in just simply quitting FR.

Yea.. that pretty well sums up how I feel. Some parts of it seem obvious, when you just look at the variations in species over time. Some parts of the theory still seem to have gaps that aren’t fully explainable

The religious part has never been an issue for me. I’ve never read Genesis in a literal way. I long ago decided: I don’t know how God made us.. and, I don’t want to waste my life trying to understand it. I’m just glad he (or she) did.

As I said a few posts down from the one you rsponded to, I was invited via FReepmail to join DC at the beginning of the site. It was intended to give the scientific community from FR a place to talk about the science with having to argue with the creationists. Nothing more.

What it turned into is a different story.

Science is just trying to figure out how God did it.

“Uh oh... I’m a Scientist who, more or less, believes in evolution. Although, I don’t discuss it much.
Guess I’m destined for the ash-heap. :-”

Well, I believe in evolution as well and I believe Christianity is perfectly compatible with that belief. I haven’t been banned either.

*snaps fingers* That's right! Immortal Brigadier or somesuch.

'Tis a shame so many egos got involved.

No cheers, unfortunately.

Maybe I missed the earliest days then. By the time I saw it, which wasn’t really too long after its inception, it had certainly turned.

Just not true in any sense. They demeaned the owner, degraded and distorted Reagan, and chose to leave by repeatedly doing what the owner said not to do. They chose to leave.

I started to do that, but since they’re banned, I didn’t figure they’d care.

No apology until they admit they are wrong and complete a 13 step program.

The issue here is simple: who is and who is not a conservative?

Not even that.

It is about who is or who is not going to honor civil discourse and at least show a respect and appreciation of the articles and artifacts that Jim Rob has seen fit to collect and present to us in his virtual abode.

No open house should have to tolerate discordant individuals bring trash from the streets onto the premises.
