Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.
Priceless! LOLOLOL!
Ok.... I may get banned for this... but, here it is... I can’t believe I’m giving this away....

Hey there,
Some of the Rudy folks were over the top but could not understand why the L Ron Paul folks could stay when their
views on the war were in tune with Obama, Hitlery, and code Pinkos.
Also some of the Paulites were aligned with the Truthers.
This bunch far more dangerous than the Rudy folks.
Oh, lord.... That brings back some memories... How can it be 33 years ago?
I've always been against banning posters just because they're Rudy lovers. So long as they kept their views to themselves and didn't support him publicly, I had no quarrel with them. It's sort of like homosexuals in the military, Don't Ask, Don't Tell.
“This is a conservative forum.”
Paperdoll is a conservative.
not only that, but having been attacked by many of them on the crevo threads, they were profane and insulting to anyone not “intelligent” enough to hold their views. I don’t miss them at all. How about you metmom?
I’m getting very close to my 10th anniversary on this website. Maybe I’ve just been naive, but.... I’ve never once thought that I, or anyone, would be banned for expressing ANY opinion... as long as
1) They were not threatening,
2) They were not obnoxious,
3) They made a case in a reasoned fashion.
I don’t know the facts around these posters... I find it hard to believe they were banned simply for being “Rudy supporters”. If so... well, I would be “deeply saddened”.
There must be “more to the story”..... Losing members over differences in a Republican Primary is a terrible thing.
Losing trolls, or abusive posters... not so bad.
Seems like yesterday to me. I was too young to get into the movie legally. So, I had to hide in the trunk as my friend entered the Drive-in... like, 10 times. :-)
Now.. my 18 year old son can quote virtually the entire movie verbatim. What a proud Dad I am. :-)
Nearly all of Rudy's few supporters were either females with no self esteem or homosexual males. That's why he fared so poorly.
Oh, please.
She was foul.
Uhh... yea, that’s the kind of thing that can get you banned... and, good riddance.
You know.. all this time, I’ve never really appreciated the vast difference in the tone of discussion here, on FR... versus the FOUL language on DU. I’ve noticed it, of course... just chalked it up to liberals being liberals.
Now... I understand better that we have Jim to thank for keeping things civil round heah.
Nonsense. There are/were plenty of vocal Rudy supporters around here who didn’t get banned, so obviously other factors were involved.
Miss who? ;)
Russell Kirk dealt with this issue on his lecture on the 10 characteristics of a conservative. You can find this on FR HERE.
Kirk's The Conservative Mind: From Burke to Elliot began, as much as anything else, the modern conservative movement.
For example, Kirk believed you were a conservative if you believed you were a conservative. Conservatism was self-defined. Being a conservative did not imply a fixed ideology. And so on.
IMHO it is a needless effort to try to ban everyone who disagrees with your version of conservatism. Any successful endeavor tries to expand its base rather than restrict it.
Hunter, Thompson, Giuliani, Romney and Paul failed to convince the voters they were the one. Like it or not McCain was selected. Whimpering, whining and excuse making will not change that. You either play on the team or not.
You cannot ban the truth. It always outs falsehood. It may take time, but eventually the truth prevails. While we decry "political correctness," we often slip into the same error with "conservative correctness." If we do so, we confess that our own uncertainty of convictions requires a banning of those who differ.
I thought Radio Astronomer was banned for his occasional vile, obscene rantings and accusations towards other posters. I saw some of what he posted before the posts got pulled and I’m surprised he lasted as long as he did.
To his credit, he often apologized later but the damage was done.
Uh oh... I'm a Scientist who, more or less, believes in evolution. Although, I don't discuss it much.
Guess I'm destined for the ash-heap. :-(
PS>>> Did we really join on the same day?
The anti-FR attitude was there before the bannings. It was there for all to see.
I went to see the movie twice a week for six weeks during its run here... and I can still recite all the dialogue, too! :->
