You obviously have not explored anything off of 80 but cheap casinos. Having lived at the base of the Rockies in Colorado for years before moving moving to Northeast Nevada, I can say from experience that the Ruby Mountains are a back county Paradise. Lets see.... rock hounding, ghost towns, snow mobileing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, skiing, to name a few things to see and do besides sitting in a dark casino. Life is what you make it, you need to get off the beaten path!
Yup, I saw that too. In Mesa. Lots of lightning.
I’ve been to the Reno area several times. Beautiful. Been to Vegas once. Los Angeles with slots.
Anyone know what the array of light colored patches is in the map/sat pic?
Some sort of mining?
There you'd be flat wrong. I teach history and have for 18 years. Was there ever a time when man wasn't violent? Well the Garden of Eden, but not since Caine and Able had their little set-to. But speaking strictly of secular history the simple growth in population of the planet and the expansion of technology coupled with political tyranny and the decline of moral values has led to an inescapable conclusion that indeed man is becoming much more efficient at dealing violent death on an ever growing scale.
Look, if you're an atheist, that's fine with me. Just say so and we'll agreeably agree to DISAGREE and leave it at that. Right or wrong I've lost nothing. If you're right, I still lose nothing and neither do you. But if you're wrong....well eternity is a long time to think things over. Especially since it will be too late to change your mind, then. Right, Quix?
Gosh, that's nice. Can't wait. Pretty lights.
Some of the most beautiful land in the world is within minutes of I-80 in both Nevada and Utah.
These easter FReeper snobs bashing Nevada obviously have never even tried to find the good things. LOL, and frankly, I don’t want them to find out how great it is to go for a walk where it is rare to see another person.
I have friends with family in Wells and they are unable to contact them (yet).

Didn’t feel a thing...looks like it’s getting ready to snow again, though....It’s a record year for us.
Called a friend in Boise for the week. They felt it.
What’s easy to say is “gosh, the world is going to heck, look at all this violence” which is a common cliche. And it’s never backed up by facts, merely perceptions. It’s the responsibility of those claiming that to back that up with analysis, not just an impression from CNN.
Here’s one example of a worldwide downward trend in armed conflict for quite some time. Certainly doesn’t look like the end times to me.

Hopefully you and all our people will be safely back home when that happens. Then they can self destruct all they want................
No aftershocks yet...
A friend called the 4 way casino, and apparently all the slot machines tipped over. Building evacuated.

Did they issue a tsunami warning for Salt Lake?
Well, that would definately depend upon a number of factors. The magnitude of the quake; how long the quake lasted; how deep it was; what type of earth was under me; what type of building I was in; and probably a few more I can’t think of right now. Contrasted with Iraq: What type of job I was doing; where I was located; and whether I were there as conditions on the ground improved (as is the current status). Given current developments in Iraq, I’d rather be there than in a strong magnitude quake; in a building of poor design; and in an area where the damage is probably going to be severe (the Nevada quake would not qualify).
Here’s a clearer shot, with a topo too. Someone did something in a grid, here.
You guys are cracking me up...
But you did say at one time you felt safer outside the “Green Zone”, that was about, what, 2 years ago???
;-)
Nope, my neck of the woods is 400 miles or so north by northeast.
OTOH, if this shaker is connected to the stuff under Yellowstone, we’re going to be doing some rock n’ rolling pretty soon.
If anybody around here even notices.
Montana’s supposed to be the most earthquake-prone place around, and most people here don’t pay much attention to anything that doesn’t start knocking things down or dump a foot of ash on your hood.
Yawn.
Might have to run by and check on the dogs, though. The young one might get excited and get out of the yard.
Hey legs, what’s going on?
