I just got back from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., where conservatives began lining up behind a man whos been sticking it to us for years. By a process of self-hypnosis, many have managed to convince themselves that McCain is actually one of us.
Not for nothing did Benjamin Disraeli call conservatives the stupid party.
What part of John McCain do we not get? McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Lieberman, McCain-Edwards -- among other socialist, anti-speech, open-borders, enviro-Marxist measures hes co-sponsored with the hardcore left of the Democratic Party over the years.
If Il Duce had served with him in the United States Senate, there would be McCain-Mussolini.

At first I thought ...wait till Wednesday after the Wisconsin Primary. But then I thought no go ahead with a timely reply.
Although we have many common thoughts, at present we view the McCain nomimation from different vantage points in time.
I have already lost my primary vote to him and you have not. Under those circumstances a vote for a favored non McCain candidate is not unreasonable.
I have already gotten over my loss and weigh the alternatives for the future of the party and the country.
You have not yet gotten to that point in time.
Well said bert. Me too.
Simple equation. When I get into the voting booth in November, I will make the best available choice to protect and defend our nation.
His record has been in a downfall since 2000, his lifetime ACU rating means nada when for the past 8 years he’s been going the opposite way.
I see why McCain supporters refer to his lifetime rating lol
OR, conservatives will prove to the RINO elite that they will step-n-fetch-it whenever they are instructed to do so, no matter how appalling or morally wrong it is. Say goodbye to the conservative wing.
If we don't elect John McCain, much more than this war will be lost. With a RAT Congress and Obama/Clinton it will be off to the races down the Socialist rathole from which there may be no return. We cannot afford to lose this election. Please stop the madness. Unify. Win.
I thought this way initailly too, but then I got past my emotions and started to logically analyze my position: How is letting a socialist/marxist get elected President better for the country? I came to the realization that my fellow conservatives were hurting themselves and the country dirrectly by foolishly casting some protest vote for a democrat by either sitting at home or actually pulling the lever for a democrat. What possible remedy could the Republican Party offer to correct the mistake made by rank and file Republican voters? Not hold primaries and have the party elites select a nominee that is more conservative? For some reason conservatives fail to accept that fact that it was rank and file republican voters that selected McCain and instead want to blame it on the party elites. I believe it is because conservatives want to believe they are a larger percentage then what they actually are within the Republican Party.
Face it, the country REPUBLICAN voters got snookered by the MSM (that includes Fox News). They did everything necessary to ensure that either McCain or Huckabee would be the candidate, and suppressed all the other Republicans. They played Republicans for suckers, and Republicans fell for it.
Then shame on Republicans. Perhaps people are correct when they call us the stupid party. BTW, did you fall for this? I can tell you neither my wife nor I fell for it. Could it possibly be that the majority of rank and file Republicans felt McCain was the best candidate? I found it hard to believe too until I came to accept the reality that conservatives really are the minority in the Republican Party as confirmed by the primary results.
As a result, Republicans are now pressured to embrace a candidate (McCain) whom they would otherwise find repugnant.
Then by all means carry though with the notion that conservatives will affect real change within the Republican Party by getting the democratic candidate elected. If you are a betting woman I will give you 100 to 1 odds that it does not accomplish the goal you perceive it will. Wanna bet??? I personally find Hillary and Obama far more repugnant than McCain and that is saying a lot because I do find McCain repugnant with regards to being our nation's President. Also who is the conservative candidate you would like to see on the Republican ticket in 2012?
You see, this time around, either way they win. And I think they realize that a McCain win would hand them an even bigger victory in the long term. I wont play into their hand like that.
Don't fool yourself, they will start to trash McCain the moment the nominees in both parties are settled. You are correct that they they do want McCain on the Republican ticket because they believe he is beatable due to the fact that conservatives loathe him and will not be motivated to go out and vote for him, Liberals listen to conservative talk radio shows and they gleened this bit of wonderful news early on in the primary process. Could explain why McCain has risen out of the ashes like a phoenix. The MSM assumed Hillary would be the nominee, they didn't count on Barak actually succeeding as well as he has, and they wanted to help her as much as they could.
The biggest worry is of course our troops and I do realize that. My father was a decorated WWII veteran, and even though I am only in my early 40s, I am disgusted by the behavior of the media as well as behavior of many Americans when it comes to this war, as compared to WWII.
We agree wholeheartedly on this point. Too bad you were not old enough to recognize how terribly they treated the military during Vietnam.
Where is the sacrifice, the sense of unity, the paper drives, victory gardens, and most importantly, the willingness to see the enemy for what they are? Where is the willingness to depict the enemy as evil?
LOL, you will never see any of that in the democratic party that exists today.
I understand that of all the candidates, McCain should be the obvious choice for CIC. I also see that he has turned his back on the invasion of our southern border. Believe me, I pray for our troops every day. By the way, I find the assertion that one can support the troops but not the war offensive.
It is not only offensive, it is an out and out lie. They have just come to the realization that they must at least appear to support the military. How do you feel when you hear so called conservatives, a number of them on this board that utter the same exact nonsense? Mostly Ron Paul supporters screaming this war is illegal and unconstitutional and that Bush should be brought up on war crimes charges. Doubly disgusting for me. As for McCain he will at least respect the military. Hillary we already know from past experience that she will not.
So that brings me back to my original point. A McCain presidency as well as a HRC presidency will both be disasters, as they are both lousy candidates. Id rather see Hillary fail than McCain, as a Hillary failure could give us back congress and revitalize the party. A McCain failure on the coattails of the Bush years would be bad. Bad for America, bad for our troops, perhaps bad for western civilization. The MSM knows that, which is why we are in the situation we find ourselves.
I do not see the Bush years as being all that bad. Did he make mistakes, absolutely. But armchair quarterbacking is always easier than the real thing. Congress has even worse ratings than Bush and they haven't even made one tough choice. Hoping for a Clinton failed Presidency is almost like wishing for a winning lottery ticket. In my opinion BJ Clinton had a failed Presidency but the MSM doesn't see it that way. Let's suppoise she does have a failed Presidency and the MSM even recognizes it, how does that ensure the Republican Party will pick anyone less repugnant than McCain? What is their motivation? The Republican Party could have run a matchstick against Carter and won. BTW, the Carter Presidency hit to many journalists in the back pocket for them to ignore Carter's failures.
Lastly, Obama: Perhaps Im naive, but I just dont see the party of Robert Byrd letting that happen. I get a huge kick out of seeing the Dems superdelegate solution from 30 years ago come back to bite them on the arse. Its Hillarys turn and the party hacks know it, and will ensure it. Oh the irony!! But then again who are the real racists here? Just ask J.C Watts, Colin Powell, Alan Keyes (whom I voted for in 96), Condi, etc.. I would gladly vote for any of them, (well, maybe not Powell). But unlike the MSM and other open minded liberals it isnt about race, its about ideology. The party of Robert Byrd doesn't exist anymore. Just Byrd and have you noticed that you haven't heard much of Byrd lately? It's because he is irrelevant. I agree they were going to hand her the nomination, but I am not sure they can do it if Obama goes into the convention with a delegate count lead, but I hope they do because the blacks will desert them faster than rats from a sinking ship and they probably would never get them back. Either way though I think McCain can beat the democratic candidate if conservatives don't roll over. Beleive me it will not accomplish what you think it will. What it will accomplish is a democrat elected as President who will in turn pull out of Iraq and the Al Qaeda's will proclaim triumph and the terrorists situation will get worse. We would probab ly even experience more attacksd within our borders.
McCain said he will fight the war until it has been won. Having endured 5 years of torture at the hands of the Vietcong it is no surprise that he abhors torture. However, he needs to understand that bringing these terrorists to out shores and giving them rights is the wrong thing to do, so keep gitmo open McCain. He also needs to understand that waterboarding is not really torture. We know what Hillary or Obama will do, let them all go so they can go out and kill more American soldiers or maybe American civilians.
But quite frankly I never accused anyone of treason. I merely posed a question, your answer is obvious no.
And no I am not trying to convince anyone of anything. Just expressing my point of view. I guess some on this forum frown upon that.
I sincerely hope your strategy works, even though I know for a fact that it won't. When it doesn't and the country suffers after a Hillary or Obama Presidency perhaps then you may see my point of view. Until then take care and the best of everything to you.
Thanks. Have been getting beat up on my position, but I understand their feelings. It wasn’t until I stopped dealing with it emotionally and started actually using my brain did I realize that I had to vote for McCain even if I did n;t really weant to, for the good of my country.
And I still consider that 75% is infinitely preferable to the 8% of Obama or the 9% of Hillary!
Talking with my cousin (Sgt in the USMC), he explained to me the reason waterboarding is no longer useful.
Waterboarding simulates drowning, and does so quite effectively! The subject believes they will drown, and will tell what they know. But that relies upon one VERY IMPORTANT THING: the subject BELIEVES that you WILL kill him.
Since the US Armed Forces have now been shown for the better part of 4 years to NOT kill prisoners, that threat is gone. If the threat was real, you - as the prisoner - had three choices to waterboarding:
1. Hold your tongue and die of drowning (what they believe was happening)
2. Tell a lie to stop the waterboarding, but be killed when the lie is revealed (your info was bad)
3. Tell the truth and live
Now that the real threat of waterboarding - death by drowning - is gone because the enemy KNOWS we don't kill prisoners AND they know that we used the waterboarding techniques, we've removed the sole penalty for choices number 1 and 2.
It's time to move to other techniques; waterboarding has lost its sole means of convincing people to talk. Keep or get rid of it, it won't work anymore.
Agreed. I smell trolls trying to divide us. Some of the posters are old FR members and bonafide conservatives. However, we can never underestimate the intelligence and guile of our opponents.
“Two reasons to vote FOR McCain - 1) President Clinton and 2) President Obama”
If 100 people choose not to vote and 10 choose to vote, the votes of the 10 elect the candidate.
Elect the candidate! No vote is no vote!
I have some homework to do researching the things you wrote about and I will reconsider my position.
Thanks again for being respectful!

Yeah I had heard somewhere, probably one of the talk shows, that they hadn’t actually used waterboarding in a couple of years or so. McCain, if he is going to be our Commander In Cheif, still needs to understand which techniques are torture and which ones aren’t.
Thanks. Apparently Mtner77 didn’t feel the same way as you after reading my post to you.
Thanks. Have been getting beat up on my position, but I understand their feelings. It wasnt until I stopped dealing with it emotionally and started actually using my brain did I realize that I had to vote for McCain even if I did not really want to, for the good of my country.
As others have posted, there is not a single reason to vote for McCain and many reason not to vote for him. Once again he and Cindy will bring sleaze into the White House. Both might be candidates for blackmail. He reminds me of the Manchurian Candidate. This rumor started long ago well before he announced interest in becoming POTUS. His lies alone imply he is a sociopath or suffers from delusions.
To protect us from Hillary Marxist Clinton, and Islamo Obama!

I thank you. You make good sound reasoned commentary with your post. I only hope enough voters in November also have the intelligence to understand what is at stake in this election.
