TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO VOTE FOR MCCAIN
Don Feder's Cold Steel Caucus ^ | 02/14/2008 | Don Feder

Posted on 02/16/2008 1:49:07 PM PST by Witch-king of Angmar

I just got back from the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., where conservatives began lining up behind a man who’s been sticking it to us for years. By a process of self-hypnosis, many have managed to convince themselves that McCain is actually one of us.

Not for nothing did Benjamin Disraeli call conservatives the stupid party.

What part of John McCain do we not get? McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Feingold, McCain-Lieberman, McCain-Edwards -- among other socialist, anti-speech, open-borders, enviro-Marxist measures he’s co-sponsored with the hardcore left of the Democratic Party over the years.

If Il Duce had served with him in the United States Senate, there would be McCain-Mussolini.

“WHAT IS YOUR ALTERNATIVE TO VOTING FOR JOHN MCCAIN IN NOVEMBER THAT IS BETTER THAN HAVING THE DEMOCRATS WIN?”

As for me, I look to the Founders for my inspiration in this fight. Voting for McCain is a vote for all of the things we conservative Americans are sworn to resist and defeat.

Those brave men risked their fortunes and their very lives to create the country we claim to love and cherish. We (and I do mean ALL OF US) have complacently allowed the current situation to come forth by simply NOT upholding all of those fine principles and standards that we so vociferously preach.

Voting for the Conservative-Republican-In-Name-Only will not guarantee us security. His falling ACU rating should be more than enough to establish that. If not that, then his sponsorship of some of the most heinous and traitorous legislation in recent memory should be the final nail in the coffin of his reputation, and most positively preclude any patriot from possibly considering him for the presidency.

I honestly feel that if Thomas Jefferson or George Washington were Freeping today, they would choose to place their vote for trustworthy conservatives on the ballot, and leave “president” blank, so as not to support evil of any stripe.

It’s my considered opinion that they would weigh our current state of affairs and conclude that the time had arisen again to fall back upon their sacred honor and to declare war upon a most certain despotism in their country.

People -— we are backed into a corner of our own construction. There is no gamesmanship that can thwart the coming cruelties. They are coming. Our squabbling amongst ourselves is a pathetic non-confront of the terrible depth of depravity that has become this nation and its government.

We will either stand up to the awful task at hand, or we will allow the Founder’s sacrifices, and all those patriots who have fallen in their wake, to have perished and fought for nothing.

It is painfully apparent that we will not have anything resembling the government we demand, after November of this year, no matter what we do now. The inevitable is coming and we had better prepare for it. The graph cannot continue to plunge. At some point, there will be no country left to defend.

I say, we should recognize that the situation has progressed beyond what normal politicking can change. There may yet be some hope for reversal through the political process, but look hard at “the graph” of our society and our culture. You know where it’s going, and the trend has been down for most of our lives. At what point do you realize that business-as-usual has to change?

I predict that it will come to that. This political season has shown me that we have finally approached a point that the Founders knew well. I, like them, intend to hold tight to my honor and defend my country from those who would destroy her. I refuse to vote for evil of any stripe.

Don’t join them. The soldiers are too important.

I'll vote for the most honest, conservative candidate, which means I won't be voting for Clinton, Obama or McCain.

The GOP is on life support. Pulling the plug on that tired old cadaver is the humane thing to do. Then, real conservatives can move on and put their support behind a genuinely conservative party that's vital and still has respect for the constitution.

p>But they'd never vote for McCain even though his stances are (often) identical.

We can talk about what the Delphic musings of George Bush really meant as far as amnesty is concerned, but the fact is he said categorically he was against amnesty. He also didn't support any amnesty bills prior to 2006. The 2006 Senate bill [S. 2611], which passed despite the Reps voting 32-23 AGAINST it and the 2007 McCain-Kennedy bill give us the details on what they actually mean in terms of legalizing the status of the 12 to 20 million illegals.

McCain, the WH, and the Dems claim these bills aren't amnesty thru an Orwellian use of language. But if the 1986 bill is amnesty, so are these. In fact, they are much more expansive than the 1986 bill, which even Ed Meese says was a mistake. And McCain voted against the 1986 amnesty bill when he was in the House.

Bush has been a disappointment in many ways. He is not a conservative.

There is lots of tossing about the term RINO....

There is a new term RIND..... Republicans In National Decline. The term also pertains the growth surrounding their mind that prevents the light of reason to penetrate.

On that we agree. My point was that most of us voted for him despite that fact, knowing full well what we were getting. So why all of a sudden are so many now invoking "principle" in this upcoming election when it's obvious they didn't give a hoot about it before?

Because we thought we’d get a better deal this time around. THIS is what we get? We’re sick and tired of it. We’ve been there/done that.

The 2000 and 2004 platforms called for a way to let illegal aliens change their status WITHOUT leaving the country. The details weren’t spelled out, but I assume that would still be a general enough to be considered amnesty by you?

The devil is always in the details. Once you start getting specific, you really learn what these ambiguous generalities really mean. Bush kept on saying that he was against amnesty. He spoke about guest worker programs and getting control over them. But he really never provided any details about what he really meant. It was only in 2006 that the details started to surface [S. 2611] and then there was McCain-Kennedy hatched in secret by a small cabal of senators who bypassed the normal committee process, tried to block all amendments, and ram it down our throats thru an up or down vote in just a few days without allowing the senators to read the 900 page document. This is so typical McCain.

And thanks for the confirmation that the 1986 plan was similar to the McCain-Kennedy plan...

That's right. They are both amnesty. You don't make the same mistake twice. In 1986, the USG estimated that 1 million would apply for amnesty. The real number turned out to be 2.7 million. Today, the USG estimates that there are 12 million illegal aliens. I wonder how many are really here? How can anyone make good public policy without even knowing how many people are affected? Imagine if there really are 20 or 25 million illegals here and the many more who will follow thru family reunification. We are going to increase our population by 167 million by 2060 without amnesty.

In hindsight, I for one didn’t know what we were getting. For example, I didn’t know that he was for amnesty.

Because we thought we’d get a better deal this time around.

Whatever gave you that idea? As I mentioned in a earlier post we've had nothing but less-than-conservative candidates since '88 -- 20 straight years. If you're waiting for the next Ronald Reagan you might just be waiting until the end of time.

THIS is what we get?

This is what the majority of the GOP electorate voted for, unfortunately.

“McCain: 82% lifetime American Conservative Union rating “

Dream on ... .

Vote for the scum bag and then scratch your head when the GOP candidates put up make RHINOS like Arnie look “conservative”.

Hon, the “big tent” doesn’t work. It’s falling apart.

“Yes, we will be pilloried, and then blamed for a Clinton or Obama Presidency since we couldn’t vote for McCain, when in fact the failure lies with the Republican party and their inability to find and nominate a suitable candidate. I refuse to accept the responsibility for that.
susie”

It doesn’t bother me at all. As a mature adult I don’t let children BULLY me. LOL! I out grew that a long time ago. Isn’t it interesting to see McCain supporters are as childish and temperamental as McCain is. I suppose immaturity and being dumb brings them together.

I am a realist, so yes I am dead serious. This is far too important to be glib. We have to make the best choice with what we have to work with.

If you slammed your finger in a car door and with medical help you save your finger but lose your fingernail, and without medical treament you lose your finger - would you not be better off seeking medical help? Now I know this is perhaps not the best analogy (maybe cutoff you nose to spite your face is better), however, my point is - that the country will suffer less under McCain than Hillary or Obama.

If you are more concerned about the conservatism of the Republican Party than concerned about the country then you have your priorities way out of whack.

First off the Republican Party may be the more conservative of the two parties, but it has been a long time, before I was born, that the Republican Party was conservative. Understand that conservatives such as you or I are the party minority and have been for quite some time.

Also understand that it pains me deeply that we have the most miserable of choices in this Presidential race, but this is what we appear to be stuck with at this point.

If you can come up with a way to make McCain disappear and put someone more conservative in his place then I will be all for it, but Obama and/or Hillary are even less conservative than McCain. So if you, by not voting or voting third party, on "principals", thus putting either of these two in to power have you yourself not executed a tresonous act? A third party candidate is not viable because it would be impossible to get the vast majority of Republicans to vote third party, because as I alluded most Republican voters are moderates or somewhat conservative.

Anyway I am sure you understand my overall point even if I failed to articulate it in a cohesive manner, and thanks for listening.

I refer you to post 171 in this thread and ask you the same question I asked jan from colorado. I am curious to hear your answer.
