What to do about McCain?
January 31, 2008 | me

Posted on 01/31/2008 6:51:39 AM PST by reaganaut1

Many Freepers, including me, are disappointed that McCain will likely be the nominee. I'll vote for Romney on Super Tuesday.

If McCain wins the nomination, I will vote for him on the *hope* he will be less bad than Clinton or Obama would be. I see no reason to actively support him by contributing to or volunteering for his campaign. I think we should focus on congressional and gubernatorial campaigns, trying to hold the seats of real conservatives and maybe pick off a few vulnerable Democrats in what will likely be a Democratic year. Any suggestions?

I think McCain is leading because even most Republicans, not to mention the country, are not very conservative. We need to change the overall political climate before we can elect a true conservative. People are conservative for various reasons. To me, contributing the the Club for Growth (focusing on free-market policies) makes more sense than contributing to the national Republican party or especially the McCain campaign. Social conservatives have groups like Concerned Women for America. We also need to fight liberal bias in the schools and the media. There are lots of ways to promote conservatism other than participating in the presidential campaign, with the understanding that the payoff will not come in the near term.

“If McCain wins the nomination, I will vote for him on the *hope* he will be less bad than Clinton or Obama would be.”

Isn’t that always the case anymore? The lesser of two evils?

I believe the majority of people are conservative. I think MSM being in the tank for Juan has had an effect...and of course many of the primaries were open primaries.

He certainly is not the candidate of the conservative GOP.

He is a media whore and has been pimped relentlessly by the media...
The POW thing has been way overplayed.

McConan the "Republican"? Just say NO!

A vote for McCain is a vote for the second coming of Lyndon Johnson

There are several reasons for this...I think a segment of the population is actually more conservative than that same segment was 20 years ago - the 18-30 crowd - but I think overall the country is moving left and this is why:

-despite the religious and cultural influences, conservatives are still being outbred by liberals - both welfare mom types as well as immigrants and minorities

-public schools/universities and indoctrination from those

-the media

-lack of a conservative leader to effectively “sell” conservatism, and why it’s good for us, and why a lot of self-admitted liberals are actually quite conservative (like Reagan did)

I am crossing over and voting for Barak. The Clinton's assault on the constitution, 16 years of Billary, must be stopped now. If she wins, I will vote for McCain for the same reason. Although McCain is not a staunch supporter of the constitution, he doesn't spit on it.

If Barak wins on the Democratic side, I stay home or vote third party.

Bush hasn’t articulated the doctrine of conservativism for the last 7 years.
So of course it is hurting badly right now.

We need someone like Mitt Romney who will articulate it, and can articulate it articulately, unlike McCain who would be just as bad a communicator as Bush.

We need a great communicator of conservatism again, and it ain’t McCain.
Last night porved that.
It appears as though he has gone senile.

EVEN if a voter can’t find a candidate to support in the Presidential race, they SHOULD ABSOLUTELY get to the polls and vote their consciences in the non-presidential races.

I’m voting for Huck on Super Tuesday, but I’ll vote for McCain if he wins the nomination.
But if Romney wins, I’m voting for the Democrats for the first time. I won’t legitimize mormonism by putting one in office.

When conservatives did try to sand-up to the libs, they got hammered and the other conservatives did jack to circle the wagons. How can we rally others to the cause when the conservative pols won’t rally around one another?

I live in Kentucky and I haven’t had a chance to vote yet. I supported Tancredo and Thompson and if some how Romney doesn’t make it to when Kentucky get’s to vote, I won’t vote. Screw McCain. He can take his amnesty loving ass back to Arizona.

So in your opinion it’s not about a candidate’s politics, but about his religion?

And for those of us who don’t thump the Bible I won’t legitmize your religion by voting one of your ilk into office either.

Commander in Chief, not Theologist in Chief.
