There are several reasons for this...I think a segment of the population is actually more conservative than that same segment was 20 years ago - the 18-30 crowd - but I think overall the country is moving left and this is why:

-despite the religious and cultural influences, conservatives are still being outbred by liberals - both welfare mom types as well as immigrants and minorities

-public schools/universities and indoctrination from those

-the media

-lack of a conservative leader to effectively “sell” conservatism, and why it’s good for us, and why a lot of self-admitted liberals are actually quite conservative (like Reagan did)

They are not being outbred. It’s just that every group of society is now considered a minority. This grows leftist power and influence. Gays, Hispanics, Women, Blacks, Muslims, Veterans, homeless you name it. So, as they put more and more people dependent on government that grows their voting base.

Their influence has reached a point that they are picking Republican candidates like McCain through the media. Now all the left leaning Republicrats are coming out and publicly endorsing McCain. Hell Medved, a moderate, is very busy making sure that the Republican party “grows” and “includes” more people. Well, this is basically going to mean that the Republican party is going to have to become more left leaning and Medved “was” a lefty.

So, with that, the country is indeed moving left because of people who are liberals have joined the Republican party and called it being more “inclusive”, they called it “growing”.

I think conservatives need to join the Democrats and force them to be more inclusive as well because they are successfully separating the concept of conservatism from the Republican party by “growing”. If this trend continues, you will see the Republican party split.

not true

on a county by county basis, across the nation, all blue counties have flat or negative population growth and population growth occurs mostly in red counties

births by welfare moms have declined, abortions by every sort of liberal are extremely higher than conservatives, conservatives more than liberals have larger families

Sadly the US is turning into a large welfare state, with those who have scrapped their way to some form of financial stability faced with the prospect of giving it away to the hand outs....

P.S. Don’t think most people know that Social Security is subject to income taxes....... as an example of empty promises after having drained your wallet.....
