Hillary's Debate Moment (YouTube Link included)
ABC News ^ | 6 Jan 08 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 01/06/2008 3:29:58 AM PST by SkyPilot

It won't come across on the transcript, but Sen. Hillary Clinton got angry during the debate tonight.

She was bickering with Sen. Barack Obama about their differences on health insurance, and whether Obama's plan leaves millions of Americans uninsured.

And then she … well … she got angry.

Frankly, I don't even really understand what she was saying. What I was getting was how angry she is. Not about an issue, so much, as about the fact that Obama is beating her.

The clip, I predict, will be played again and again and again.

Pundits will say that her tone made male voters recoil. And led some female voters to sneer.

Clinton people are spinning this as her projecting strength. I do not think that will be the widely-head view.

HERE's THE VIDEO LINK, already posted by Clinton enemies and the debate isn't even over yet.

Tell me what you think.

-- jpt

UPDATE: She just had another weird moment, too, where she seemed to blame Natalie Sarkisyan's death on John Edwards' inability to get the Patients Bill of Rights passed in the House.

I should add that this angry Hillary Clinton is NOT one I've ever seen at the Senate, on the stump, or in interviews. But I fear her performance tonight, in contrast to Obama's coolness and Edwards' Southern drawl, feeds into stereotypes about her. She tried to address this by dismissing "likeability" as a factor -- that Americans in 2000 would have preferred to have a beer with George W. Bush than Al Gore, and look how that worked out. But still.

That’s a fabulous poster of Hillary — America’s Ex-Wife.

As I mentioned upthread, I heard the phrase first from my brother, but it’s so apt that probably a lot of people thought the same thing at the same time.

Seriously, it fits. She never divorced Bill for his infidelity, but the Democrat Party (along with the rest of us) seems to be divorcing her, and there she is: unloved, bitter, unappealing, greedy, lonely, shrill, grasping, bossy, the whole bit.

My brother is the first person I heard say that Hillary is “America’s Ex-Wife.”

My point is the DNC white power structure will sink Obama because he is Black.

First of all, Obama is not black. He is multi-racial. You need to think about the symbolism of this, because it may make Obama the next President. His theme is unity, and it is a powerful one, suggesting an end once and for all to America's "race problem".

For white voters that is a _powerful_ lure, and that is why in this particular primary season Hillary is toast and the DNC will just have to take their lumps and line up behind Obama.

Presidential politics is not so much about ideas as it is about myths--in Obama's case the comforting myth and symbolism offered is "national unity".

That is why his speeches don't make any sense, because like JFK, Obama represents a new generation and a new national theme. We are dealing with primal emotions here and not the cool logic of an FR discussion. (That was a joke, OK? :-) )

In JFK's case he represented youth and vigor that could defeat the Red Menace and the fat and ugly Khrushchev.

Hillary thinks "change" means change this policy or change that policy. Obama understands that change means change the way people think about themselves and their country.

This is deep stuff, but the DNC will "get it" and dump Hillary.

(btw, none of this symbolism stuff actually affects the real world once the guy becomes President, but, hey, this is politics. :-) )

Botoxed not just her entire forehead, but between her eyes and the crows feet.
Made for a strange and unnatural look.

On a bus.

If this woman’s voice is going to be coming at me for the next 4 years or more, I will be one distinctly unhappy American.

I love your "America's Ex-Wife" quote.

This quote from digger48, and the following graphics from devolve , were as good.

"I’d hate to be Huma tonight. Hillary won’t be listening for the ‘safeword’ "

Thank you! I put these together with MS-Paint after hearing the phrase tossed back and forth from a couple of other FReepers. FR serves as an endless source of inspiration.

And quite seriously, the more of these simple little images we can put out the better. The force of an image to convey an idea is extremely powerful. Even better when we can get a laugh out of it for extra milage.

We all saw how "Sore/Loserman" impacted society. Sooner or later one of our FReepers is going to come up with some image that will be forever associated to Hillary in America's psyche that she won't be able to overcome.

My vote is for Monkapotamus to pull it off this time. : )

She mentioned a couple of times about being the first woman prez...

And Obama did NOT take the bait and talk about being the first black president. Smart move. He didn't need to as everyone watching thought it whether they were for or against. She came across as divisive with identity politics and he didn't. But his point was made and she did it for him.

I agree that she didn’t come off that badly in her response, but I do not agree that her response would have been better received if she were a male candidate. Actually, I think it is significantly more likely that she would not receive the same amount of sympathy if she were a male candidate. Gender has been a definitive plus for Hillary. Not a drawback.

I am not a Billary fan, but I didn’t see anything at all wrong with her response. Basically said actions speak louder than words and seemed passionite more than angry.

The irony associated with the Clinton downfall is interesting. They thought Hillary was a show-in because they “knew” they had the black vote. It;s what happens when you do not stop to look around/smell the roses once in a while.

I completely agree. The DNC is going to end up pushing Edwards. They see hillarys negatives and they don’t think a black man can win over the entire country.

She did not dare go full steam in front of the TV cameras. Just read the books or articles her Secret Service agents wrote about her tantrums and liberal use of the F word against them. Yet we saw enough to see how petty and vindictive she could be. The truth is she has nothing to show for her 35 years, except her husband’s dubious legacy.

And last night nobody asked her about the Hsu money.
