Hillary's Debate Moment (YouTube Link included)
ABC News ^ | 6 Jan 08 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 01/06/2008 3:29:58 AM PST by SkyPilot

It won't come across on the transcript, but Sen. Hillary Clinton got angry during the debate tonight.

She was bickering with Sen. Barack Obama about their differences on health insurance, and whether Obama's plan leaves millions of Americans uninsured.

And then she … well … she got angry.

Frankly, I don't even really understand what she was saying. What I was getting was how angry she is. Not about an issue, so much, as about the fact that Obama is beating her.

The clip, I predict, will be played again and again and again.

Pundits will say that her tone made male voters recoil. And led some female voters to sneer.

Clinton people are spinning this as her projecting strength. I do not think that will be the widely-head view.

HERE's THE VIDEO LINK, already posted by Clinton enemies and the debate isn't even over yet.

Tell me what you think.

-- jpt

UPDATE: She just had another weird moment, too, where she seemed to blame Natalie Sarkisyan's death on John Edwards' inability to get the Patients Bill of Rights passed in the House.

I should add that this angry Hillary Clinton is NOT one I've ever seen at the Senate, on the stump, or in interviews. But I fear her performance tonight, in contrast to Obama's coolness and Edwards' Southern drawl, feeds into stereotypes about her. She tried to address this by dismissing "likeability" as a factor -- that Americans in 2000 would have preferred to have a beer with George W. Bush than Al Gore, and look how that worked out. But still.

passionate men often turn off people.

Depends on the context. In politics, it's usually a plus. There's a quote from Nietzsche that goes "men believe in the truth of all that is seen to be strongly believed in". I think that's usually true for most political figures.

She kept saying 35 years...

She’s only been in any kind of public office for 7 years....

I have a 45 year record of fighting gun control. May be I should run!

FWIW I posted after the debate where she stumbled around that the party had decided to cut her free. The fix is in for Obama. Hillary's money will start drying up. That will be the key. There were some rumors last week that she was have trouble paying travel bills. We shall see.

She is going back to the days of Watergate when she tried to argue that a sitting president should not be represented by legal counsel.

few people like that kind of assertiveness from a woman

It may be a cultural thing - I don't think anyone accused Margaret Thatcher of being unobtrusive or being in the background. Granted that Hillary is no Maggie, but American gender politics do seem to be hurting her.

Bull, it's the substance (no there, there)

She is no bigger horses hiney than Tancredo was. He just had more palatable positions on issues that matter here.

Alan Bullock used that quote to describe Hitler. He had a way of delivering an address that electrified a room. The man's shortcomings as a speaker didn't matter much next to the passion and fury he conveyed when he spoke. Political figures who seek power will to it. And will matters most. Maybe Hillary's willpower can keep her from being tossed out by the roadside as this year's political trash. We'll see if she has what it takes to come back on top.

Ah...Queen Hillary finally dropping her facade and showing the world her true angry-woman self. It sure ain’t pretty. Doubtlessly, this is the Hillary that Bill and her staff gets to deal with every day behind the scenes. The look on Obama’s face during her wild rant was classic, and I thought that Edwards was going to get up and laugh at her.

The Witch had a very “angry” face on most of the time.

I could barely watch the debates, since Democrats mostly turn my stomach (I occasionally go to DU, as you may discern from my tagline, but I typically can't stand it for long, for the reason that's contained in that same tagline). Besides, there was a GREAT NFL game on last night, Jacksonville vs. Pittsburgh. Amazing.

/Rush Limbaugh boring sports commentary

What I did notice was her angry affect, intensely angry, and how angry she was when she responded to the Breck Girl's comments about how every time he talks about change, he gets attacked. Hillary demanded to rebut his comments, and then of course attacked him. The Breck Girl pretty much stood and took his whuppin'. Pathetic.

“I actually think she’d smite the Hugo Chavez’ in the world or anyone who dared challenge her authority on an international scale”

Hillary wouldnt smite anyone...she would have no backing ...she wants to decrease the military and make them ineffective...tea parties, not target practice...

Hillary would kiss up to the Hugos and IwannaJihads and send Nancy et al to negotiate “peace”...

In no time at all we would be the has been super power...

Yeah but her reputation precedes her and she plays into it with any slip.

Everyone knows about the flying lamps and the unending sting of four letter words for the secrete service people who were watching for danger (their job), etc. and not toteing her bags they way she wanted it. Everyone knows how she treated lifelong White House employees. So for people to view the face, etcand know where its been, that is associated with heapings of undserved (or in the case of Bubba who knows)....abuse. and images reminding people of abuse will not win election

That is because the Breck Girl prefers returning to his clear-cut acreage and mansion as opposed to an unscheduled long-term camping trip Ft. Marcy Park.

Being whiny and b*tchy is so attractive in a presidential candidate. Just trot out the "I'm a woman and the boys are beating me up" card. That's worked so well for Hillary before. Its getting old.
