SUFFOLK A former Navy SEAL found with illegal weapons and explosives at his home near Chuckatuck was arraigned in court today.
Elbert Tillman Jr., 34, was arrested by Suffolk Police on Dec. 29 after a search of his residence revealed more than 200 different types of illegal explosives, a large quantity of possible illegal steroids, syringes, 18 rifles, numerous handguns, two computers and 28 metal military boxes of assorted ammunition.
Tillman was arraigned via video in Suffolk General District Court from the Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where hes being held without bond.
Tillman pled not guilty to four felony charges of creating or using bombs or explosives, manufacturing, sale or use of explosives in a residential area and four counts of possessing explosives in a residential area. He told Judge Jim Moore that he will hire his own attorney.
Police had said earlier that additional charges are expected to be filed against Tillman once all of the explosive devices found at the residence in the 6500 block of Ferry Point Road have been identified and inventoried.
There are also pending charges involving the possession of illegal steroids and weapons charges relating to possession of weapons while in possession of illegal drugs, said Lt. D.J. George, police spokeswoman. George said investigations are also ongoing to determine if any of the items were stolen government property.
In addition, George said, Tillman is being investigated in Martinsville, Ind. for a violent domestic assault that occurred on Dec. 27. She said hes expected to be charged later in the week.
Sounds like the explosives could do him in.
Uh, he had drugs and GUNS, but these Massachusettes jouralists thought the gun angle was sexier, scarier?
“Possible” steroids and guns its “possible” thats is insulin too.
Investigators say Elbert Tillman Jr. had enough illegal explosives to do damage as far as a 1/3 mile radius from his home.
Suffolk fire and rescue spokesman Jim Judkins says police secured a warrant Friday and raided a barn-shaped garage on Ferry Point Road after receiving a tip.
Authorities seized Claymore anti-personnel mines, detonators, C-4 plastic explosives and tracer ammunition.
Authorities also seized 18 rifles, numerous handguns, two computers and 28 metal military boxes of assorted ammunition.
Tillman is charged with four felony counts of manufacture and possession of explosive devices.
Yeah, kinda hard to explain away claymores.
And a computer too!? Oh my!
uh, 2 computers....very serious crime....god, I hope they don’t find me, I have 4.
Any of the “assault” computers?
no, just “concealed” ones...lol
The computers quite likely have all his business records on them. Info from them will help put this guy away, and probably some of his customers/suppliers as well.
Uh...anybody see McGee lately? He wuz gonna git me some high-quality fireworks for the 4th...
I wonder WTF he was up to? I don't have much problem with his having them as wondering what he was using them for.Maybe he was working up a training presentation as a private contractor with pending federal licenses, lets hope so, or he is going to be in the big house for a while.
I thought about trying “concealed”, but I’d need a size 80 overcoat and I’d probably walk funny, too.
Bump for later.
Maybe he’s a nutcase. Or maybe he’s the kind of person you’d be happy to have around if armed resistance ever became necessary.
Or maybe he’s both.
Yeah we been reading e-mail on this for a day or so......bad news. Spouse domestic dispute led to his demise. Yet he should have known better.
LOL! Just remember, “Front toward enemy.”
Except for the drugs, steroids, and explosives, this could be my house. Actually, compared to me, this guy is Sarah Brady. Except for the drugs, steroids, and explosives.
Well they said SEAL ......:o)
Not EOD........!!
I wonder if it’s verified that he’s an ex-Seal ?
Lol....just shows these reporters don’t tink.
