I have a very simple question, and I'd really like your take on it. I don't mean this as antagonistic, but I'd really like to hear your answer.
Somewhere between 70 and 80 percent of the people here on Free Republic consistently express their clear preference in poll after poll for Fred Thompson or Duncan Hunter over Huckabee or Romney.
My question is: Why?
Why do you think, despite Romneys many millions spent and the claims of both Romney and Huckabee to be genuine conservatives, that Freepers haven't bought it? It is quite clear that most here are firm in their belief that neither Romney or Huckabee is an acceptable conservative. At least at this point of the game.
Why do we think this - in your opinion?
And then, why are we wrong?
Hank
I want someone who can win - Huckabee has been maligned by alot of people here. I don’t agree with him 100% on all issues, but he has the Mojo.
PS - After watching the campaigh Romney has run, it would be hard for me to pull the lever for him.
Why haven’t we bought their “I’m a conservative” line?
Are we supposed to after $X million dollars are spent?
I don’t care how much they spend on ads, flip-flop, “clarify” or claim to now “get it” (McCain on shamnesty, Roooooody on the 2nd Ammendment, Romney on abortion) a leopard doesn’t change it’s spots.
They can run ads 24x7 on every channel from now until the election and they’re still RINOs.
The biggest issue with both Huckster and Romney is that, despite what they say they stand for, when in office they did something different.
I hate to be the one to tell you this my FRiend but The Huckster’s train has left the station and The Huckster was not on it.
That ship has sailed and The Huckster has only one way to go..........DOWN.
That was a statement....not a question.
PSSS - I don’t get the following here for Fred either - he has more votes for illegal immigration than Huckabee. Duncan is solid though, but comes across as harsh - I think that’s why he didn’t catch on.
I’m interesting in reading what your opinions-answers are to the questions you asked, Mr. Kimball.
Huckabee’s record has maligned him.
I don’t know a lot about Arkansas politics but he comes across much more like Bill Clinton than Ronald Reagan in that he seems to be populist instead of principled.
I could not care less about his Bible-cred.
Maybe some people *could* care less but I couldn’t care less.
I’m just here to watch.
Kinky huh?

Huckabee is a pro-illegal, pro-Amnesty, tax raising, big government loving, socialist/liberal, violent criminal pardoning, terrorist appeasing, false prophet. In other words Huckabee is really a Democrat.
Not my words, but sums up my views

..because FReepers don't listen to the MSM
Post me after thurday nite !
and ditto what you said about Romney.
He had a great speech. That’s cool.
One speech does not clear the table.
.........and one other thing. I truly believe McCain has the best chance of winning the ‘08 Presidential election against any candidate the Dems field. I think he would win easily but don’t think the nomination is his. MHOOC.
Not my choice by a long shot but I am a realist.

I don't get it. My question was to Romney and Huckabee supporters, asking them why those of us who support Thompson and Hunter do, and why we're wrong.
Who do you support?
Hank
