Before Today I though Ron Paul was Nuts Now I think He is the only choice for President

Posted on 12/24/2007 10:39:05 AM PST by Reform Canada

I saw the interviews with Ron Paul on Glen Beck and Meet the Press and found myself agreeing with much of what he said. He referred to a movie called Freedom to Fascism so I decided to watch. I am a very skeptical person yet I am now convinced. For the sake of your future and the future of your family watch this movie and decide for yourself.

I would say the constitutional basis would be Article I Section 8 Clause I of the Constitution. That, I think would be the basis for any laws that Congress would have passed. At least there is some constitutional basis for it as opposed to abortion which I can find nothing. This is the best answer I have as I have a hard time getting enthused about making a case for the FIT. You know anything that America has done that Paul likes?

We’ll trade you Ron Paul for Stephen Harper.

No doubt about it - Harper is an incredible leader. He and the Conservatives have been cutting taxes all over the place, have assuaged the egos of the Quebec separatists with the equivalent of a pat on the head, have been strong on law and order issues (for example, Canada is no longer a haven for child porn and sex offenders), are strengthening the Canadian military, have been putting a lot of effort into reforming the senate (turning it from a center of patronage into an elected body - though it is disappointing that the camp within the Conservative party wishing to have the senators elected by the provincial legislatures (instead of directly by the people) doesn't have a lot of pull), have acted to repeal the gun registry (providing blanket amnesty to "violators" until they succeed), all while using incrementalism to provide a bulwark against continued social decay (without getting bogged down).

With a minority government! I'm interested in seeing what happens when the Conservative Party wins a majority government.

(for those not familiar, it would mean most importantly that the Conservatives could pass legislation without having to rely on the support of other parties, like the centrist Liberal party (or at least they WERE centrist, until Mr Kyoto took over), the weird Quebec folks, or the far-left socialist NDP.

/end hijack

“Good point. At least Canadians don’t need us to reprint the ballot in a foreign language.”

That’s because both English and French are “national languages” of Canada. I’ve heard of several initiatives to make English the official language of the US, but so far they haven’t made much progress.

Something to consider is that if Paul was rational on the WOT he would not get a fraction of the publicity that he gets.

And because he does, a lot of people are getting introduced to some fairly serious conservatism who would not otherwise, and in a positive light.

There is lemonade in the lemon.

LOL, as do I. I just think it is totally unrealistic that A:The President could repeal it and B: That Congress would be inclined to do so.

Dangerous lemonade.

Lots of people will think "wacko" when they consider the positions he takes that you and I view favorably.

I do see where Ron Paul could have a Barry Goldwater effect on our future.

I want to win the war in Iraq. Once we have pulled back I would be fine with cutting all of our foreign aid over the globe. I would be fine with shutting down military bases a bringing kids home. I would be fine with smaller government and eliminating the department of education.

The fact is we can’t afford it all, whether you like it or not. I don’t like the term “empire” and I think we deserve more credit than that. But we can’t afford any more of these wars. We can’t even afford this one.

So I think in the future his approach to foreign policy should be both considered and implemented.

Now that we are already in the middle of it all in Iraq though, I think we have a duty to them to stick it through.

I like Dr. Paul though. Can’t see myself voting for him, he doesn’t have a chance. I have liked and respected him for years.

You are an idiot if you agree with Paul’s message.

Do you disagree with all of Paul's message?

But legalizing all drugs is a bad idea.

The states can decide what to legalize and what to criminalize. It is not the role of the feds.

****Your broadcast post with an IRS challenge doesn’t make you right. Yes, there were a number of attack posts; but you still ignored the valid ones.****

Ron Paul isn’t perfect and peoples biggest problem is his position on the WOT. However if there isn’t continued improvement in Iraq and Afghanistan and some serious stability by 2010 than a serious reassessment of the methods being used in this war will needed. A generation of American isolationism just might be the best thing for America to refortify it’s power and for the rest of the world to learn to look out for itself. If America only acted militarily to defend it’s NATO allies and didn’t get involved in defending non allies and stayed out of UN sanctioned conflicts after a generation you may see a safer world.

I am glad this post wasn’t removed however what is convincing me is the fact most of you are resorting to personal attacks instead of discussing the issues at hand. Most of you love to attack algore however today many of you are acting just like him.

The states can decide what to legalize and what to criminalize. It is not the role of the feds.

It will never happen. New Orleans (Louisiana) wanted to lower the drinking age to 18 (where it was before the Carter Administration). They were told okay, but they would forfeit their highway funds (taken from them in gas taxes). Republican administrations and congress criters agreed to enforce it.
